Scott "Scotty" Grayson

  As a Marlin

Scott swam on the Marlins Swim Team from 1983 to 1994.  As a 12 year old, he qualified for NAG Top 16 in two relays and went to his first Eastern Zones. He swam at his first Junior National Championship when he was 16.  Then in 1994, Scott placed second in the 100 yd breaststroke (56.64) at Junior National East in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  That time gave Scott (17) a 7th place ranking in the 17-18 boys NAG Top 16.
Scott was selected to participate in the 1994 Olympic Festival in St. Louis, Missouri, where he swam the 100 meter breaststroke.
Scott finished 2nd in the scholastic division 100 m breaststroke at the 1992
Empire State Games in Albany.  Scott still owns many Marlins Swim Team records, especially in the 15-18 age group.

At Briarcliff HS

Swimming as an independent swimmer, Scott won the 100 yd breaststroke at Section One,  and went to the New York State finals all four years of high school.  Scott became the first  high school All-American at Briarcliff HS when he set the Section One Record (58.18) as a Junior.  He placed second at States as a Senior, and received the Con Edison Scholar Athlete of the Week Award that same year.   Scott qualified for All-County and All-Section all 4 years.

As a Terrapin

Scott swam for 4 years as a Terrapin at the University of Maryland, at College Park.  Scott qualified for USS Nationals as a freshman (56.17).  He was elected UMD Swimming and Diving Team Captain for three consecutive years: 95-96,  96-97, 97-98.  He placed in the 100 yd breaststroke  all four years at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships (ACC's): (5th:56.17)-(3rd:55.51)- (2nd:55.09)-(3rd:54.78).  He was a three time NCAA qualifier (1996-97-98). He is Maryland's 100 yd breaststroke's record holder (54.78) at ACC in 1998,  and 100 meter breaststroke record holder (1:04.47 at Nationals in 1998).
Scott earned a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology from the College of Health and Human performances.
In 98-99, Scott was a
student coach at UMD.
Scott was a coach at the 2002 and 2003 Nike Summer Camp at the University of Maryland.

In the Summer of 1997, Scott placed fourth in the 100 meter breaststroke and 200 meter individual medley, and fifth in the 200 meter breaststroke,  at the 15th World Maccabiah Games in Israel.

Awards in College:

Ranked fourth in the 100 yd breaststroke for 17-18 boys in NAG Top 16 during his Freshman year in 1995.
U.M.A.S.A Scholar Athlete Award: Award to the swimmer who has compiled the best combination of academic and aquatic records (95-96 & 96-97).
John T. Bell MVP Award (Outstanding Swimmer Award: 94-95 & 96-97)
All-ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) 1997.

University of Maryland "M" Club Foundation Sylvester Watch Award for Excellence in Athletics (1997).
John Guckeyson Award for male athlete, based on scholarship, leadership, and super athletic ability - must have earned 4 letters in a single sport (1998)
