Eric "Mitch" Mitchell

As a Marlin

Eric is one of the most successful swimmers on the Marlins Swim Team. He was a member of the team for ten years, during which he re-wrote the Book of Records (short course and long course).
Eric qualified for the Eastern Zone All-Star Championships in 1993, 94, and 95.  He was ranked in the NAG Top 16 in 1993 (11-12 boys 200 & 500 free), in 1995 (13-14 boys 200 & 400 IM, 200 & 500 free, 200 m IM), in 1997 (15-16 boys 200 m IM). Eric qualified for his first Junior National Championship in 1995-96 (200 & 400 IM). As a senior, Eric qualified for 5 events for the Junior Championship: 200/400 IM, 200/500 free, 200 fly) and for the 800 freestyle relay.  Eric was the second Marlin to make finals at Juniors.  Eric still owns most of the 13-14 and 15-18 team records in freestyle and Individual Medley.

In High School

Eric was a member of the independent swim team for Byram Hills HS in Armonk. In 1995, Eric was named "Gannett Suburban Newspapers Swimmer of the Year" and was awarded the "Outstanding Swimmer Award" given by the Westchester County Swimming Officials. After dominating the Section One 200 IM during his Senior year, Eric finished second at the state meet with a personal best time of 1:56.46. He finished fourth in the 500 free at the NYSPHSAA championships. Eric was Co-Captain of the Section One State Team. He made All-Section and All-County.

Eric is now a Senior at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. During his Freshman year, Eric swam the 200 IM (1:52.30) at CAA's (Colonial Athletic Association), the 400 IM (4:02.00), and the 200 fly (1:52.30).   He swam a personal best time in the 400 IM (4:00.10) at the Nike Cup Classic in Chapel Hill,  North Carolina.
During the first few meets of the 2000-01 season, Eric swam the team's fastest times in 2 events: 1:55.49 in the 200 IM, and 1:55.03 in the 200 fly.
Dec.2000: At the first Patriot Invitational held at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA, Eric won 3 events (200 IM 1:55.38 - 400 IM 4:07.30 - 200 Fly 1:54.84) and was third in the 100 back (53.50). He also led off the winning 400 freestyle relay).

Mitchell returns to the Monarch swim team for his fourth and final season and will be looked upon for leadership in and out of the pool this season…Eric was a three time finalist at the 2001 CAA Championship meet, 200 IM (1:53.21), 400 IM (4:02.93) and 200 fly (1:53.21)…A versatile swimmer, Mitchell holds all-time top 10 times in five different events. On 2/2/02, at the last dual meet of his career, Eric won the 200 fly against UMBC.
Eric ended his swimming career at the 2002 CAA Championship meet held in Fairfax, VA. Eric finished third in the 200 IM (1:53.11), second in the 400 IM (4:02.05), and ninth in the 200 fly (1:52.03). Eric graduated in May 2002.
