Joanne Paleo

As A Marlin

Joanne was a Marlin for 11 years. She will always be remembered for setting the standard of excellence for our female athletes. After breaking numerous team records as an eight and ten year old, Joanne emerged as a star when she was twelve. She qualified for her first Zone All-Star Team with a dominating performance at the Metropolitan Junior Olympics, becoming just the third female marlin to make Zones. That summer, at the Long Course Zones, Joanne not only won the 50 meter freestyle, but swam a time that earned a National Top 16 ranking. As a 13 year old, Joanne earned a return trip to Zones.
As a fourteen year old, Joanne again made history by becoming the first Marlin to qualify for
Junior Nationals. She did it in style, qualifying for the 50 yd freestyle while swimming the first leg of the 500 free. Joanne later achieved Junior National qualifying times in the 100 and 200 freestyle. Joanne is the only Marlin, male or female, to compete in the Junior Nationals four straight years.
