Marc Lener

As a Marlin

Marc was a member of the Marlins Swim Team for 11 years (1985-1996).  Along with Hunter Lewis, Craig DiRuzzo and Scott Grayson, Marc swam on the 11-12 boys Marlins 200 free and 200 medley relays that placed high in the 1989 NAG Top 16 Rankings. Marc was a sprinter in the freestyle, backstroke and butterfly. As such, he still owns nine team records. Marc earned six rankings in individual events in the USA Swimming NAG Top 16 short course: in 1990 (11-12 boys: 12th 50 back, 14th 50 free) and in 1991 (11-12 boys: 10th 50 free, 13th 50 back, 14th 50 fly, 14th 100 IM).
Marc qualified for the
Metropolitan Eastern Zone All-Star Team in 1988, 1990, and 1992. He was a member of the Marlins 400 medley relay that swam at the Junior National Championship in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1994. In March 1996, Marc was elected "Youth Of The Year" at the Boys & Girls Club of Mt. Kisco.

In High School

Marc swam as an independent swimmer for Fox Lane High School.  He was a member of the All-County and All-Section teams all four years.  Marc was the 1996 recipient of the "Westchester County Officials Association Scholarship", which is determined not by athletic achievement, but based upon classroom results and community activity. As a senior, Marc placed second in both the 50 free (22.57) and 100 back (54.95) at the Section One meet. He went on to swim both events at the New York State Championship in Buffalo.

At The University Of Pennsylvania

In May 2000, Marc graduated from UPenn (the University of Pennsylvania) with a major in The Biological Basis of Behavior, and a minor in Urban Studies.  He was a member of Penn Men's Varsity Swim Team Quakers for 3 years (1996-1999).  He was a member of the EISL Championship Team in 1997. As a senior, Marc decided to join the Water Polo Team.
Marc was a brother in Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity. He was the President of Check One (group concerned with multicultural/multiracial issues on campus and out in the real world). He worked at Civic House, which is a center for Community Service for Penn's Campus.
