Marlins Make Waves At Summer Meets

Four members of the Mount Kisco-based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester
Marlins Swim Team will head to Syracuse to represent the Hudson Valley at the 25th Annual Empire State Games. The trials were held in June at Marist College in Poughkeepsie. All four will swim in the scholastic division.
Caren Guyett, of Yorktown, will swim the 200, 400, and 800 meter freestyle. Her sister, Sarah Guyett, will compete in the 200 butterfly and 200 & 400 individual medley.
Andrew Palumbo, of Yorktown, will swim the 800 freestyle.
Brad Thornton, of Hastings-on-Hudson, won four events at the trials: 50 free, 100 fly, 200 IM, and 400 IM. He will swim three of those events at the Games.
Twenty Marlins traveled to East Meadow, Long Island, to compete at the LIAC Summertime Invitational. The two-day competition took place at the Nassau County Aquatic Center, Eisenhower Park, at the end of June.
Dakota Gordon, of Bedford, finished second in the 10-under boys 50 meter butterfly and 100 backstroke, and third in the 50 breaststroke.
Drew Polhill placed second in the 11-12 boys 50 breaststroke and third in the 50 back.
Tristan Hastings, of Somers, took second in the 13-14 boys 200 back.
Swimming in the 10-under boys,
Justin Potter, 8, tied the 8-under team record in the 50 free (39.59L), and set three team records: the 50 fly (45.25L), the 100 back (1:40.78L), and the 200 free (3:05.59L).
Many Marlins placed among the Top eight finishers:
Jared Blacker, Tara Flaherty, Chris Luboja, Ali Polhill, Alyssa Potter, Brittany Potter, Kim Tracey, and Katie Underwood.

Fourteen-year-old
Bradley Mitchell, of Somers, took third in the men 200 meter breaststroke.
Katherine Munson placed fifth in the women 50 backstroke, and eighth in the 100 back.
Brad Thornton finished fifth in the men 50 butterfly.
Tristan Hastings, of Somers, set a 13-14 boys long course team record in the 50 back (32.61L). Tristan swam in five finals.
The following Marlins also came back for evening finals:
Sarah Guyett, Susanna Heinz, and Andrew Palumbo.
Ten Marlins competed at the 2002 Metropolitan Junior Olympics that were held recently at the Lehman College APEX in the Bronx.
Thirteen-year-old
Tristan Hastings, of Somers, set a new team record and finished second in the 13-14 boys 200 meter backstroke (2:23.47L). He placed second in the 100 back, 400 IM, and 200 breaststroke; third in the 50 free, sixth in the 200 free, and seventh in the 100 breaststroke. Tristan, who qualified in six events, will head to Buffalo to participate in the Eastern Zones All-star Championships in August.
Meredith Bannon placed fifth in the 13-14 girls 200 breaststroke and sixth in the 100 breaststroke.
Kat Munson finished third in the 15-18 girls 200 back, fifth in the 100 back and 200 fly, and eighth in the 200 free.
Alyssa Potter placed fifth in the 11-12 girls 100 fly, and seventh in the 50 and 100 breaststroke, and in the 200 IM.
Brittany Potter took eighth in the 11-12 girls 100 fly and 200 IM.
Swimming in the 10-under age group, eighth-year-old
Justin Potter set a new team record in the 8-under boys 100 free (1:27.00L).
Chris Luboja, Kim Tracey, Katie Underwood and Roxy Wacyk also participated in the three-day competition.

Marlins Swim At Long Island Summertime Classic

Thirty-four members of the Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester
Marlins Swim Team participated in the 2002 Long Course Summertime Classic. The Long Island Aquatic Club hosted the two-day meet that was held recently at the Nassau County Aquatic Center at Eisenhower Park, in East Meadow, NY.
Caren Guyett, of Yorktown, placed first in the 11-12 girls 100 meter freestyle (1:03.83L) and the 200 individual medley (2:43.00L). She finished second in the 100 backstroke.
Dylan Morris, of Chappaqua, won the 11-12 boys 100 free (1:06.64L) and the 200 IM (2:51.68L). He finished third in the 50 breaststroke and fourth in the 100 breast.
Meredith Bannon, of Putnam Valley, placed first in the 13-14 girls 100 breaststroke (1:22.68L) and fifth in the 200 breast.
Bradley Mitchell, of Somers, finished first in the 13-14 boys 100 breaststroke (1:15.57L). He placed second in the 100 free and fifth in the 100 butterfly.
Other Marlins placing among the top eight finishers were:

Marlins Are Boys & Girls Clubs Champions

For the third consecutive year, the
Marlins Swim Team won the Boys & Girls Clubs National Swimming Championships. The Sarasota Boys & Girls Club Chapter of Swim Florida hosted the 17th Annual swimming Championships, for three days, at the Selby Aquatic Center in Sarasota, Florida. 
The Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester swimmers scored 8,333 points. They were followed by Swim Florida (7,839 points), Carrollwood Village of Hillsborough County (2,728 points) and the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Nashua (1,194 points). 
Daniel Simco, of Pound Ridge, and Bradley Mitchell, of Somers, led the Marlins with a perfect score of 160 points in their respective age groups.
D. Simco received the first place High Point Award for the 11-12 boys. He won the 50 yd freestyle (25.54), the 100 free (55.97), the 200 free (2:02.95), the 500 free (5:39.06), the 50 backstroke (29.29), the 100 back (1:04.09), the 100 individual medley (1:02.47 - tied meet record), and the 200 IM (2:17.25). His twin brother
Anthony scored 134 points and received the second place trophy. A. Simco won the 100 breaststroke (1:12.30), the 50 butterfly (28.09), and the 100 fly (1:02.87). 
The team of
Dylan Morris, A. Simco, Drew Polhill, and D. Simco took first place in the 200 freestyle relay (1:49.37). D. Simco, Morris, A. Simco, and Casey Powers set a new meet record in the 200 medley relay (2:00.28).
Brad Mitchell scored 160 points and received the first place high point award in the 13-14 boys division. He placed first in the 50 free (22.63), 100 free (49.93), 200 free (1:49.05), 500 free (5:01.59), 100 breast (59.90 - meet record), 200 breast (2:09.92 - meet record), 200 IM (2:01.17 - meet record), and 400 IM (4:22.67).
Andrew Palumbo, of Yorktown, who scored 130 points, was awarded the third place trophy. He won the 13-14 boys 1650 free (18:32.62). David Ballinger of Pleasantville placed first in the 13-14 boys 100 fly (58.45).
Colby McKenna, Mitchell, Ballinger and Palumbo teamed up to win the 200 medley relay (1:48.53 - meet record) and the 200 free relay (1:38.33). 
Eight-year-old
Madeline Berkman and Matthew Karle scored 157 points and won first place High Point Awards in their respective age group,
Berkman, of Briarcliff Manor, won the 8-under girls 50 free (32.94), 100 free (1:13.76), 25 back (18.35), 50 back (37.97), 25 fly (16.79), 50 fly (35.39 - meet record), and 100 IM (1:21.72).
Sara Blacker, of Mount Kisco, won the 8-under girls 25 breast (20.91), and 50 breast (46.07). Taylor Scilufo, of Mount Kisco, scored 119 points and won the third place High Point trophy. 
Teammates Scilufo,
Danielle Sims, Caroline Weston, and Berkman joined forces to win the 8-under girls 100 free relay (1:05.96 - meet record). Scilufo, Blacker, Berkman and C. Weston won the 100 medley relay (1:14.12).
Matthew Karle, of Mount Kisco, won the 8-under boys 50 free (32.18), 25 back (18.33), 50 back (37.38), 50 breast (42.42), 25 fly (18.31), 50 fly (37.96), and 100 IM (1:20.28). 

Will Rappaport, Harry Zimmerman,
Karle,
and Aaron Blacker teamed up to win the 8-under boys 100 free relay (1:07.93) and 100 medley relay (1:16.06).
Caren Guyett, of Yorktown, scored 154 points and earned a first place High Point Award. C. Guyett placed first in the 11-12 girls 100 free (56.63), 200 free (1:58.87), 500 free (5:25.44), 100 back (1:03.62), 100 IM (1:05.11), and 200 IM (2:18.92).
The senior boys swept the Open division with three High Point Awards.
Brad Thornton finished first with 140 points. He was followed by Ryan McKenna (136 points), and Kyle Thornton (129 points). 
B. Thornton won the senior boys 200 free (1:47.26), 100 fly (54.38) and 200 IM (2:01.30). R. McKenna placed first in the 200 back (2:01.44) and 400 IM (4:20.20). Swimming in their last meet as Marlins, K. Thornton won the 100 back (55.80),
Tim Herr placed first in the 100 breast (1:01.24), and Casey O'Meara won the 200 breast (2:15.43). 
The team of B. Thornton, Herr, K. Thornton, and O'Meara won the senior boys 200 free relay (1:32.12) and 200 medley relay (1:40.31).
Five Marlins dominated the 9-10 girls division:
Betsy Weston placed first with 135 points. She was followed by Ali Polhill (129 pts), Alexandra Gorki (128 pts), Coray O'Halloran (126 pts), and Melissa Fanelli (124 pts).
B. Weston, of Katonah won the 200 IM (2:40.85). Nine-year-old Ali Polhill finished first in the 50 fly (32.74) and 100 fly (1:13.29). Gorki, of Chappaqua, placed first in the 100 IM (1:12.67). O'Halloran, of Pound Ridge, won the 50 breast (37.39), and the 100 breast (1:21.81). Fanelli, of Pleasantville, had victories in the 50 free (29.43), 50 back (33.25 - meet record), and 100 back (1:14.71). 
Gorki, Fanelli, Weston, and Polhill teamed up to win the 200 free relay with a team record time of 1:59.89 (meet record). Fanelli, O'Halloran, Polhill and Weston joined forces to win the 200 medley relay with a National Age Group Top 16 Reportable time of 2:13.35 (meet and team records).
Rebecca Grove, of Yorktown, received the second place trophy as she scored 125.50 points. Grove tied for first place in the senior girls 50 free (25.22), won the 100 free (55.03), the 100 back (59.54), the 200 back (2:07.91) and the 200 IM (2:13.21). 
The team of
Sarah Guyett, Kristine Robinson, Katherine Munson and Grove won the senior girls 200 free relay (1:44.05). 
Meredith Bannon, of Putnam Valley, won the 13-14 girls 100 breast (1:11.65), and 200 breast (2:36.28). Tara Flaherty, Bannon, Jaymi Light, and Michelle Lian joined forces to win the 13-14 girls 200 medley relay (2:00.26).
David Bush, of Elmsford, won the 9-10 boys 100 back (1:14.70).

Marlins Place At Eastern Zones

Nine members of the Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester Marlins Swim Team participated in the USA-Swimming Eastern Zone All-star Short Course Championships. The three-day meet was held at the Gloucester County Institute of Technology in Sewell, New Jersey, April 4-6, 2002.
Bradley Mitchell, of Somers, placed second in the 13-14 boys 100 yd breaststroke (59.10 - Top 16), and in the 200 breaststroke (2:10.03). He took third in the 200 individual medley (1:59.75 - Top 16), and sixth in the 400 IM (4:19.10).
Twelve-year-old
Caren Guyett, of Yorktown, placed third in the 11-12 girls 500 freestyle (5:18.73), fourth in the 200 IM (2:16.21), and fifth in the 200 free (2:01.08).
Anthony Simco, of Pound Ridge, placed fourth in the 11-12 boys 50 butterfly, with a NAG Top 16 reportable time of 26.99. He finished seventh in the 50 breaststroke (32.22) and 100 fly (1:01.66).
Daniel Simco, also of Pound Ridge, placed fourth in the 11-12 boys 50 backstroke (28.60), and sixth in the 100 IM (1:02.15).
Swimming in the 15-18 girls age group,
Sarah Guyett, of Yorktown, finished fifth in the 200 back (2:09.66), and seventh in the 100 back (1:01.12).
Sixteen-year-old
Katherine Munson finished fifth in the 15-18 girls 100 back (1:00.87).
Ten-year-old
Noah Hammer, of Bedford Hills, placed eighth in the 10-under boys 50 fly with a personal best time of 30.99. His brother, Simon Hammer, finished eighth in the 13-14 boys 100 breaststroke (1:02.89).
Melissa Fanelli, of Pleasantville, competed in the 10-under girls 50 back.

Grove Swims At Nationals

Rebecca Grove, a seventeen-year-old Junior from Yorktown, and a swimmer on the Mt. Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs Of Northern Westchester Marlins Swim Team, participated in her third Phillips 66 National Swimming Championships.
The week long competition took place recently at the University of Minnesota, in Minneapolis.
Grove swam both the 100 and 200 meter backstroke. She finished in 36th place in the 100 back, and 54th in the 200 back.

Marlins Qualify For Zones

The Metropolitan Zone Team Qualifier Meet took place recently in the Bronx at the Lehman College APEX Aquatic facility. Nine members of the Mt. Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs Of Northern Westchester Marlins Swim Team qualified for the 2002 Eastern Zone All-Star Short Course Championships. 
The top two finishers in each event qualified for the prestigious meet that will be held April 4-6 at the Gloucester County Institute of Technology in Sewell, New Jersey. The USA-Swimming Eastern Zone is made up of twelve conferences: Adirondack, Allegheny Mountain, Connecticut, Middle Atlantic, Maryland, Maine, Metropolitan, New England, New Jersey, Niagara, Potomac Valley and Virginia.
Three sets of siblings will be leading the Marlins at this elite competition.
Caren and Sarah Guyett, of Yorktown, are making their first trip to the Zones. Caren qualified for National Age Group Top 16 consideration and set new team records as she qualified for Zones in the 11-12 girls 200 (1:58.45) and 500 yd freestyle (5:13.95). She will also be swimming at Zones in the 50 and 100 free. Older sister Sarah qualified with personal best times in the 15-18 girls 100 (1:00.59) and 200 backstroke (2:08.95). Both events also qualify for the Speedo Champions Series.
Noah and Simon Hammer, of Bedford Hills, set their marks in the boys division. Ten-year-old Noah will be taking his first trip to the Zones by qualifying in the 10-under boys 50 and 100 butterfly. He will be accompanied by his older brother Simon, who swam at the meet in 1997, 1998, and 2000. Simon will swim the 13-14 boys 100 and 200 breaststroke, and the 50 free.
Pound Ridge residents
Anthony and Daniel Simco, are returning to Zones for the fourth consecutive year. Anthony will swim the 11-12 boys 50 & 100 breaststroke, 50 & 100 fly, and 200 IM. Daniel will compete in the 11-12 boys 50 & 100 back, 50 free, 100 fly, and 100 IM.
Melissa Fanelli, of Pleasantville, qualified for Zones for the first time by winning the 10-under girls 50 yd backstroke with a personal best time (32.34).
Bradley Mitchell, of Somers, is making his fourth trip to Zones. Bradley qualified first in the 13-14 boys 100 breaststroke (58.93 - Team record - NAG Top 16), in the 200 breaststroke (2:09.45 - Team record - NAG Top 16), in the 200 IM (1:57.77 - Team record - NAG Top 16), and in the 400 IM (4:13.34 - NAG Top 16).
Katherine Munson, of New Fairfield, the daughter of Head Coach Dennis Munson, is returning to Zones for the third time: she will swim the 15-18 girls 100 and 200 backstroke events.

9 and Under Marlins Make Waves

The younger swimmers of the Mt. Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs Of Northern Westchester
Marlins Swim Team made waves recently at the Middies 9 and Under Mini-Meet. The one day meet was held recently at the White Plains YWCA.
Seven-year-old
Colleen Powers, of Chappaqua, won three events, finishing first in the 7-under girls 25 yd freestyle, 25 backstroke and 25 butterfly. She placed second in the 25 breaststroke.
Madeline Berkman, of Briarcliff Manor, won four events. She placed first in the 8-under girls 100 free, 50 breaststroke, 50 fly, and 100 individual medley.
Taylor Scilufo, of Pleasantville, won two events in the girls 8-under: the 50 free and the 50 back.
The team of Scilufo,
Christy Green, Danielle Sims and Berkman won and set a new team record in the 8-under girls 200 free relay (2:26.73).
Katie Underwood, of Briarcliff Manor, won the nine-year-old girls 50 back. Nadie Reilly, of Pleasantville, won the nine-year-old girls 50 breaststroke.
Danny Caiola, of Katonah, won two events in the 7-under boys age group: the 25 free and the 25 fly. 
Will Rappaport, of Pound Ridge, won the 7-under boys 25 back and 25 breaststroke.
Justin Potter, of New Fairfield, finished first in the 8-under boys 50 fly and 100 IM.

Marlins Swim At Age Group Championships

The Mt. Kisco based-Boys & Girls Club Of Northern Westchester
Marlins Swim Team traveled to Montgomery, New York, to participate in the Metropolitan Swimming Age Group Championships north. The three-day-meet, hosted by the Viking Swim Club, was held recently at the Valley Central High School Natatorium.
Thirteen Marlins made additional standards that will allow them to participate in the Zone Qualifier Meet. 
In the 10-under girls age group,
Abigail Pribble, of Katonah, qualified in the 50 and 100 yd freestyle. Ariel Zona, of Bedford, made her cut in the 50 breaststroke, and nine-year-old Katie Underwood, of Briarcliff Manor, qualified in the 100 backstroke.
Swimming in the 10-under boys age group,
David Bush, of Elmsford, made the cut in the 50 butterfly; Chappaqua's Braden Clarke qualified in the 50 back and 100 fly; Gregory Mangieri, of Pleasantville, made the standard in the 100 breaststroke and 100 individual medley; Nine-year-old Jamie Mitchell, of Bedford Hills, qualified in the 50 and 100 fly.
Twelve-year-old twins
Alyssa and Brittany Potter, of New Fairfield, qualified in five events in the 11-12 girls age group. Alyssa made her cuts in the 100 breaststroke and 500 free, while Brittany made hers in he 50 fly, 50 back, and 100 IM. Eleven-year-old Kim Tracey, of Sleepy Hollow, set the standard in the 100 back.
Dylan Morris, of Chappaqua, qualified in the 11-12 boys 50, 100, 200, and 500 yd freestyle, and in the 100 IM. 
Thirteen-year-old
Colby McKenna, of Armonk, qualified in the 13-14 boys 200 back. Andrew Palumbo, of Yorktown, made the cut in the 100 free.
Many Marlins placed first in the Age Group divisions: In the 9-10 girls age group:

Grove Makes Finals At Speedo Champions Series

Rebecca Grove, of the Mt. Kisco based-Boys & Girls Club Of Northern Westchester Marlins Swim Team, made finals at the 2002 Short Course Speedo Champions Series. The four-day meet was held at the Nassau Aquatic Center Goodwill Games Pool, at Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, Long Island. Swimmers from more than eighty swim teams from the Northeast participated in the USA-Swimming Championship.
Grove, a seventeen-year-old resident of Yorktown, finished seventh in the women 100 yard backstroke (57.77). She placed fifteenth in the 200 back.
Thornwood resident,
Clifton Cazes, 16, finished nineteenth in the men 100 breaststroke, and 19th in the 200 breaststroke.
Casey O'Meara, an eighteen-year-old from Mt. Kisco, placed 20th in the 100 breaststroke and 21st in the 200 breast. 
Somers
Bradley Mitchell, 14, finished 22nd in the 100 breaststroke and 23rd in the 200 breaststroke.
Sarah Guyett, Katherine Munson and Lowell Byers also participated in the competition.

Little Marlins Set Records

Records fell in Bohemia, Long Island, when the little
Marlins won the 2002 Metropolitan Swimming 8-Under Championships. The Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester Marlins scored 2,317.50 points at the two-day meet that was held at Connetquot High School. The Badger Swim Club finished in second place (1,287 points) and the Gael Aquatic Club placed third (938.50 points).
Six-year-old
Aaron Blacker, of Mt. Kisco, scored 133 points, and won five events, setting new meet records in each event. The 6-Under Boys High Point Award winner placed first in the 25 yd freestyle (17.36), 50 free (38.05), 25 backstroke (21.99), 25 breaststroke (24.68), and 25 butterfly (20.55). Aaron finished second in the 50 back. 
Sean Lyons, of Yorktown, won the second place High Point Award for the six-under boys (112 points). Sean placed second in the 50 free, 25 back, and 25 fly. He finished third in the 25 free, 50 back, and 25 breast.
Danny Caiola, of Katonah, scored 151 points to win the seven-year-old boys High Point Award. Danny set four meet records: the 25 free (15.56), 50 free (35.12), 100 free (1:18.88), 25 fly (16.93). He also won the 50 fly and 100 Individual Medley. Danny finished third in the 25 back. 
Will Rappaport, of Pound Ridge, received the second place High Point Award (137 points). Will won the seven-year-old boys 25 back, the 50 back (meet record 39.84), and the 50 breast. He placed second in the 25 breast, and third in the 50 free and 100 IM.
The team of Aaron Blacker, Sean Lyons, Will Rappaport, and Danny Caiola won and set meet records in three relays: 7-under boys 100 free relay (1:11.95), 200 free relay (2:22.43), and 100 medley relay (1:24.90). Rappaport, Blacker, Caiola and Henry Simon won the 200 medley relay (meet record 3:03.59).
Matthew Karle, of Mount Kisco, scored 145 points to win the second place High Point Award in the eight-year-old boys age group. Matthew placed first in the 25 free (meet record 15.09), the 25 breast (19.47), and the 50 breast (meet record 41.84). He placed second in the 25 & 50 back, 25 & 50 fly, and 100 IM.
Justin Potter finished third in the 8-year-old boys 25 & 50 fly, and the 100 IM. 
The team of
Spencer Lathrop, Matthew Karle, Justin Potter and Taegan Clarke set Metropolitan, Meet and Marlins Records in the 200 medley relay (2:43.65). The same foursome won the 100 free relay. Potter, Alex Gatto, Clarke, and Karle won the 100 medley relay and set Meet and Marlins records in the 200 free relay (2:22.39).
Madeline Berkman, of Briarcliff Manor, scored 137 points and received the eight-year-old girls second place High Point Award. Madeline set a Marlins team record and won the 50 fly (35.05). She placed second in the 25, 50 & 100 free, 50 breast and 100 IM. She placed third in the 25 breast and 25 fly. 
Sara Blacker, of Mt. Kisco, placed third in the eight-year-old girls 50 breast. 
Wendy Woeckener, of Pleasantville, placed third in the six-under girls 50 free, 25 back, and 50 back.
The team of
Caroline Weston, Danielle Sims, Taylor Scilufo, and Berkman won the 8-under girls 100 free relay. Scilufo, Christy Green, Sims and Berkman set a new Team Record in the 8-under girls 200 free relay (2:27.67). Green, Sara Blacker, Berkman and Scilufo set a new Team Record in the 200 medley relay (2:40.72).

Hastings Does It Again

Tristan Hastings, of the Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Club Of Northern Westchester Marlins Swim Team, set a National Age Group Record for the second time in two weeks! 
Hastings, a twelve-year-old boy and a resident of Somers, set the NAG record in the 11-12 boys 200 yd backstroke for the first time at the 2002 Senior Metropolitan Short Course Championships with a time of 2:02.11.
Two weeks later, at the Middies March Madness Invitational in White Plains, Tristan swam the event in a new NAG Record time of 2:00.39, bettering his previous record by 1.72 seconds. The new time is also a new Metropolitan Swimming and Marlins Swimming record.
Tristan won five more individual events at the meet that was held at the White Plains YWCA: the 50 freestyle, 100 free (NAG Top 16: 52.68), the 100 back (NAG Top 16 & team record: 56.86), 50 breaststroke, and 200 butterfly (Team record: 2:14.99).
Daniel Simco, of Pound Ridge, won two events for the 11-12 boys: the 100 and the 200 breaststroke. Adam Powell, also from Pound Ridge, won the 11-12 boys 50 back.
Other winners for the Marlins were
Melissa Fanelli, of Pleasantville, (9-10 girls 50 back) and Dakota Gordon, of Bedford, (9-10 boys 50 fly).

NAG Record Falls At Senior Mets

Swimming in his first Senior Metropolitan Short Course Swimming Championships, twelve-year-old
Tristan Hastings, of Somers, set a new National Age Group Record in the 11-12 boys 200 yd backstroke. His NAG Top 16 time of 2:02.11 is also a new Metropolitan and Team record. Hastings, the youngest boy entered in the competition, is a member of the Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester Marlins Swim Team.
Twenty-nine Marlins participated in the four-day meet that was held recently at the Lehman College APEX Aquatic Center, in the Bronx. The Badger Swim Club won the meet, followed by the Long Island Aquatic Club and Asphalt Green Swim Club. The Marlins finished in eighth place in the combined Team Score.
Clifton Cazes, of Thornwood, finished fourth in the Men Open 200 breaststroke, and seventh in the 100 breaststroke.
Yorktown's
Rebecca Grove, took fifth in the Women Open 100 back.
Lowell Byers, of Chappaqua, placed sixth in the Men Open 100 freestyle. 
Kyle Thornton finished eighth in the Men Open 200 Individual Medley.
The team of
Brad Thornton, Kyle Thornton, Ryan McKenna and Lowell Byers placed sixth in the Men Open 800 free relay.

Marlins Win Junior Olympics

Powered by their 10-under swimmers, the Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester
Marlins won the 2002 Metropolitan Swimming Junior Olympics. The three-day championship meet, hosted by West Point Swim Club and Team Rockland, was held at the Crandall Pool of the United States Military Academy of West Point. 
The Marlins won the meet with 2,749.50 points. They were followed by the White Plains YWCA Middies (2,641 points) and the Badger Swim Club (2,134.50 points). The Marlins 10-under won the Combined Team Score with 771 points. The 10-under boys (420 points) and the 11-12 boys (859 points) won the male team scores.
Scoring 177 points,
Tristan Hastings, of Somers, won the high point award for the 11-12 boys. Tristan won eighth events, set one team record, three Metropolitan Swimming and Junior Olympic records, and qualified for National Age Group Top 16 Consideration in three events. Hastings finished first in the 100 yd freestyle, 200 free, 500 free, 200 backstroke (2:02.97 - Top 16, Metro, JO, Team), 100 breaststroke (1:07.63 - top 16), 200 breaststroke (2:26.45 - Top 16, Metro, JO), 200 individual medley (2:10.06 - top 16), and 400 IM (4:38.49 - Top 16, Metro, JO). 
Also swimming in the 11-12 boys age group, Pound Ridge resident
Anthony Simco won three events: the 50 butterfly, 100 fly, and 200 fly (2:18.10 - team record). His twin brother Daniel Simco won the 100 IM and 100 back. Adam Powell, also from Pound Ridge, won the 50 back with a NAG Top 16 reportable time of 28.07. 
D. Simco, Hastings, A. Simco and Powell joined forces to win and set records in three relays: the 200 free relay (1:42.88 - Top 16), the 200 medley relay (1:52.48 - Top 16, Metro, JO, Team), and the 400 medley relay (4:09.94 - Top 16, Metro, JO).

Betsy Weston, Ali Polhill, Coray O'Halloran, and Melissa Fanelli set a new team record in the 200 free relay (2:00.37).
In the 11-12 girls age group,
Caren Guyett, of Yorktown, set a team record in the 500 free (5:19.14) and Alyssa Potter set a team record in the 200 fly (2:26.20). Hannah Fitzgibbons, Brittany Potter, A. Potter and Guyett set a team record in the 400 free relay (4:00.82).
Tara Flaherty, Paige Mellars, Meredith Bannon and Susanna Heinz joined forces to win the 13-14 girls 200 free relay. 
Mount Kisco's
Brittany Hunter was a double winner in the 15-18 girls age group. Brittany won the 200 back and the 200 fly.
Noah Hammer, of Bedford Hills, won two events for the 10-under boys: the 50 and 100 fly. Noah's older brother Simon Hammer, won the 13-14 boys 50 free. 
Scoring 155 points,
Bradley Mitchell, of Somers, was the high point winner in the 13-14 boys age group. Brad won the 100 and 200 breaststroke and the 400 IM. 
The team of S. Hammer,
Andrew Palumbo, David Ballinger and Mitchell qualified for NAG Top 16 in the 200 free relay (1:36.09). The same foursome won the 13-14 boys 400 free and 200 medley relays.
In the 15-18 boys age group,
Lowell Byers of Chappaqua won the 200 free and 100 fly. Ryan McKenna of Armonk won the 200 back and 200 fly, and Brad Thornton won the 400 IM. 
The team of B. Thornton,
Kyle Thornton, Casey O'Meara and Byers won the 400 free relay. McKenna, Taylor Gettinger, Erik Johnson, and Patrick Connolly won the 200 medley relay. McKenna, Connolly, Johnson and Ian Capsuto won the 400 medley relay.

Marlins Swim At National Qualifier

During the first weekend of February, some
Marlins from the Senior Team, attended the 2002 Long Island Aquatic Club National Qualifier. The trials & finals long course meet was held at the Nassau County Aquatic Center, at Eisenhower Park, in East Meadow, Long Island.
Rebecca Grove, a seventeen-year-old girl from Yorktown, won the women 100 meter backstroke (1:08.23). She placed sixth in the 50 freestyle.
Clifton Cazes, a sixteen-year-old from Thornwood, finished first in the men 200 breaststroke (2:38.21).
Ryan McKenna (16) of Armonk placed fourth in the men 100 backstroke.
Somers'
Bradley Mitchell (14) finished third in the men 200 breaststroke. 
Katherine Munson (16) placed seventh in the final of the women 100 backstroke.
Both the
Thornton brothers finished among the top eight. Brad (15) placed fourth in the men 400 individual medley and seventh in the 100 backstroke. Kyle (17) finished second in the 100 backstroke and eighth in the 400 IM.

Marlins Excel at Silvers 

Twenty-six members of the Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs Of Northern Westchester
Marlins qualified in extra events for the 2002 Metropolitan Junior Olympics. The swimmers made their added JO cuts at the 2002 Metropolitan Silver Championships that were held recently at the White Plains YWCA. The three-day meet was hosted by the Middies Swim Team.

Marlins Swim At Condors

The Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins Swim Team competed recently at the Condors A-BB-B Winter Invitational. The two-day meet was held at Westchester Community College in Valhalla. 
Sara Blacker, of Mt. Kisco, broke one of the Marlins' oldest team record when she won the 8-under 50 yd breaststroke. Her time of 43.76 erased the time of 43.80 set by Nicole Navas in 1987.
Matthew Karle, of Mount Kisco, won six events in the 8-under boys age group: the 50 freestyle, 25 and 50 backstroke, 25 and 50 breaststroke, and 100 individual medley. 
Dakota Gordon, of Bedford, placed first in six events in the 9-10 boys age group. Dakota won the 50 & 100 back, 50 & 100 breaststroke, and 50 & 100 butterfly.
Madeline Berkman, of Briarcliff Manor, won five events. Maddy placed first in the 8-under girls 50 free, 25 & 50 back, 25 breaststroke, and 100 IM.
Bradley Mitchell, of Somers, was a quadruple winner in the 13-14 boys age group. Brad won the 200 back, 100 fly, and 100 & 200 breaststroke.
Melissa Fanelli, of Pleasantville, was a triple winner for the Marlins. Melissa won the 9-10 girls 50 free, 50 back, and 100 breaststroke.
The team of
Fanelli, Coray O'Halloran, Ali Polhill and Betsy Weston qualified for National Age Group Top 16 Consideration as they won the 9-10 girls 200 medley relay in a team record time of 2:14.09. 
Many Marlins were double winners:
Coray O'Halloran placed first in the 9-10 girls 50 breaststroke and 100 fly. Rebecca Grove won the girls Open 50 free and 100 back. 
John Carr was victorious in the 9-10 boys 100 free and 100 IM. Daniel Simco placed first in the 11-12 boys 100 back and 100 breaststroke. Tristan Hastings won the 11-12 boys 50 back and 50 breaststroke. Leading off the 11-12 boys 200 medley relay, Hastings set a new team record in the 50 back (26.68 - Top 16).
In the boys Open division,
Brad Thornton won the 200 free and 100 fly. Clifton Cazes placed first in the 100 & 200 breaststroke events. Lowell Byers was victorious in the 50 free and 100 back.
Many Marlins won one event apiece. In the girls division:
Caroline Weston (8-under 25 free), Hannah Marks (8-under 25 fly), Kim Holden (9-10 girls 50 fly), Caren Guyett (11-12 girls 50 free), Susanna Heinz (13-14 girls 100 fly), Tara Flaherty (13-14 girls 200 breaststroke), Kat Munson (Open 100 breaststroke), and Sarah Guyett (Open 200 IM).
In the boys division:
Justin Potter (8-under 25 fly), David Bush (9-10 boys 50 free), and Tim Herr (Open 200 IM).
The Marlins also won 16 out of 20 relay races.

Marlins Win Newburgh 22nd Blue&Gold

The Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester
Marlins Swim Team won the 22nd Annual Blue & Gold Meet. Thirteen teams participated in the two-day event that was held recently at the Newburgh Free Academy. The Marlins scored 3,946.50 points, well ahead of the host team, the Newburgh Sharks, who scored 1,378.50 points. The Aqua Gems Swim Team finished third with 852 points. 
Six Marlins earned the High Point Award in their respective age-group.
Briarcliff Manor's
Madeline Berkman received the High Point award for the 8-under girls. She won six events and scored the maximum of 96 points. Maddy won the 50 and 100 yd freestyle, 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, 50 butterfly, and 100 individual medley. The team of Taylor Scilufo, Sara Blacker, Berkman, and Hannah Marks won and set a meet record in the 100 medley relay (1:15.25). Berkman, Scilufo, Marks, and Caroline Weston won the 100 free relay.
To complete the sweep of the 8-under age group, Mount Kisco's
Matthew Karle won all six events and received the High Point award in the boys division. Matthew won the 50 and 100 free, 50 back, 50 breast, 50 fly, and 100 IM. Ryan Stern, Justin Potter, Karle and Taegan Clarke won the 8-under boys 100 free relay. Alex Gatto, Karle, Potter, and Aaron Blacker placed first in the 100 medley relay.
Caren Guyett, of Yorktown, scored 87 points and won the High Point award for the 11-12 girls. Caren finished first in the 100 free, 100 breaststroke, and 200 IM. The team of Hannah Fitzgibbons, Alyssa Cecchetelli, Steffi Niessl and Guyett placed first in the 11-12 girls 200 free relay. Fitzgibbons, Sheila Light, Brittany Potter and Guyett won the 200 medley relay.
Tristan Hastings, of Somers, scored the maximum of 96 points and received the High Point award for the 11-12 boys. Tristan won the 50 & 100 free, the 100 back (NAG Top 16), 100 breaststroke, 100 fly, and 200 IM (meet record: 2:12.91). Daniel Simco, Adam Powell, Anthony Simco and Hastings won and set meet records in the 200 free (1:44.72) and the 200 medley relays (1:56.86). 
Two fourteen-year-old boys tied for High Point in the 13-14 age group.
Simon Hammer, of Bedford Hills, and Bradley Mitchell, of Somers, scored 87 points each. Hammer won the 50 & 100 free, and the 100 fly. Mitchell won the 100 back, 200 breaststroke (meet record: 2:17.44), and the 200 IM. Hammer also won the 200 breaststroke in the open division (non-scoring event). Hammer, Andrew Palumbo, David Ballinger, and Mitchell won the 400 free (meet record: 3:35.07) and 400 medley relays.
Teammates
Betsy Weston, Alexandra Gorki, Melissa Fanelli, and Ali Polhill placed first in the 10-under girls 200 free relay. Fanelli, Marissa Horner, Polhill, and Weston won the 200 medley relay.
Connor White, of Pound Ridge, won the 9-10 boys 50 breaststroke. The team of Dakota Gordon, White, Noah Hammer, and Matthew Hadley placed first in the 10-under boys 200 medley relay.
Clifton Cazes placed first in the boys open division 100 breaststroke. Kyle Thornton, Brad Thornton, Cazes and Lowell Byers won the boys 400 free relay.

Records Fall At Holiday Classic XV

Ninety members of the Mount Kisco Based-Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester
Marlins Swim Team traveled to New Jersey recently, to compete in the Holiday Classic XV Swimming Championships. Seventeen-Hundred athletes from New England, Middle Atlantic, Potomac Valley, Metropolitan and New Jersey participated in this year's championship. The three-day meet, hosted by Eastern Express Swim Team, was held at the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center of Rutgers University Bush Campus, in Piscataway, New Jersey.
Not only did the Marlins finish in second place overall with 1,879.50 points, they placed first amongst the 50 teams in the boys division, and seventh in the girls division. The White Plains YWCA finished in first place. Spirit Swim Team from Middle Atlantic placed third.
Tristan Hastings, a 12-year-old boy from Somers, won four events, set one meet record, four team records, two Metropolitan Swimming records, and qualified for National Age Group Top 16 in seven events. Tristan placed first in the 11-12 boys 100 yd backstroke (58.00 - Top 16), 200 back (2:06.86 - Team record - Top 16), 100 breaststroke (1:07.68 - Top 16), 200 breaststroke (2:24.61 - Meet, Team and Metropolitan Records - Top 16). He placed second in the 500 freestyle (5:15.32), 100 individual medley (1:00.25 - Top 16), and 400 IM (4:36.21 - Team & Metropolitan Records - Top 16). Tristan finished third in the 200 IM (2:07.06 - Team record - Top 16).
Daniel Simco, a twelve-year-old boy from Pound Ridge, placed first in the 11-12 boys 50 back (28.23). He finished second in the 100 back (59.76 - Top 16), 200 back (2:09.85 - Top 16); fourth in the 400 IM (4:53.32), sixth in the 200 IM (2:16.38) and 200 free (2:05.57), and eighth in the 500 free (5:35.31). 
Anthony Simco, also from Pound Ridge, won the 11-12 boys 50 breaststroke (32.00). Anthony finished third in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.10), in the 50 butterfly (27.48), in the 100 fly (1:00.40); he placed fifth in the 200 breaststroke (2:42.81), and in the 200 fly (2:23.19 - team record).
Adam Powell, of Bedford, finished second in the 11-12 boys 50 back (29.23), third in the 50 free (26.44), fourth in the 100 back (1:03.01), and fifth in the 50 fly (28.85).
The team of D. Simco, Powell, A. Simco, and Hastings set team and meet records in the 200 free relay (1:42.34 - Top 16) and in the 200 medley relay (1:52.57 - Top 16).
Caren Guyett, a twelve-year-old girl from Yorktown, won the 11-12 girls 100 IM (1:06.04). Caren finished second in the 100 free (56.27), 200 free (2:02.12), 200 IM (2:20.37) and 400 IM (4:56.00 - Team record). Caren set a team record in the 11-12 girls 500 free in which she placed third (5:24.91). She also placed third in the 200 back (2:19.52), and sixth in the 100 back (1:05.94).
Alyssa Potter placed eighth in the 11-12 girls 200 fly (2:28.59 - Team Record). 
Hannah Fitzgibbons, Sheila Light, Potter, and Guyett finished sixth in the 11-12 girls 200 medley relay (2:05.63). Guyett, Light, Fitzgibbons, and Alyssa Cecchetelli placed eighth in the 200 free relay (1:50.65).
Somers resident,
Bradley Mitchell, set two team records in the 13-14 boys breaststroke events. The fourteen-year-old won the 100 (1:00.19 - team record - Top 16) and the 200 breaststroke (2:12.01 - team record - top 16). Bradley finished second in the 200 IM (2:02.63), fifth in the 400 IM (4:25.42) and 50 free (23.22), and seventh in the 100 free (50.98).
Simon Hammer, of Bedford Hills, placed second in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.99 - Top 16), 200 breaststroke (2:12.68 - Top 16), fifth in the 100 free (50.75), sixth in the 50 free (23.28), and eighth in the 200 IM (2:06.05). 
The team of
David Ballinger, Mitchell, Hammer, and Josh Goldfarb won the 13-14 boys 200 medley relay (1:46.31 - Top 16). Hammer, Goldfarb, Andrew Palumbo, and Mitchell finished second in the 400 free relay (3:28.22). Ballinger, Mitchell, Hammer, and Goldfarb placed second in the 400 medley relay (3:51.53 - Top 16). 
Sixteen-year-old
Rebecca Grove, of Yorktown, set three team records. Rebecca finished second in the women open division 100 back (56.91 - team record - Top 16), fourth in the 200 back (2:03.93), seventh in the 50 free (24.76 - team record 24.39 in prelims). Rebecca also set a team record in the 200 IM (2:07.08).
Kristine Robinson of Putnam Valley set a team record in the women open 200 breaststroke (2:29.92).
Susanna Heinz, of Chappaqua, set a team record in the 13-14 girls 500 free (5:20.85). 
Melissa Fanelli, of Pleasantville, finished fifth in the 10-under girls 50 back (34.30). Marissa Horner placed seventh in the 50 breaststroke (39.80). Nine-year-old Ali Polhill finished eighth in the 50 fly (32.97). The team of Betsy Weston, Fanelli, Alexandra Gorki and Polhill won a very exciting 200 free relay (2:03.09). Fanelli, Coray O'Halloran, Polhill and Weston finished first in the 200 medley relay (2:15.25). The team of Kim Holden, Molly Simon, Emma Golden and Gorki placed fifth in that event (2:19.31).
Nine-year-old
Noah Hammer, of Bedford Hills, placed fourth in the 10-under boys 50 fly (32.46), and fifth in the 100 fly (1:14.82). Nine-year-old Connor White, of Pound Ridge, was sixth in the 50 breaststroke (41.15). Mark Caiola, of Katonah, placed eighth in the 200 free (2:27.14). The team of Braden Clarke, Caiola, Hammer, and Matthew Hadley placed third in the 200 free relay, while Gregory Mangieri, David Bush, Dakota Gordon, and Brian Lyons placed sixth in the same event (2:14.77). Teammates Gordon, Caiola, Hammer, and Hadley finished third in the 200 medley relay (2:27.05) and the team of Bush, Garek Berard, Gregory Mullaney, and Clarke finished fourth (2:30.34).
In the Men open division, Chappaqua's
Lowell Byers placed seventh in both the 50 (21.84) and 100 free (48.29). Casey O'Meara of Mount Kisco, placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke (59.73) and seventh in the 200 breaststroke (2:12.47). Tim Herr, O'Meara, Byers, and Kyle Thornton finished third in the open division 200 free relay (1:29.12) and 200 medley relay (1:38.99 - team record). Herr, O'Meara, Brad Thornton, and Byers placed seventh in the 400 medley relay.
Rebecca Grove,

Marlins Host Holiday Meet

The Trotta Millennium Pool, home of the Mt. Kisco based-Boys & Girls Club Of Northern Westchester
Marlins Swim Team, was the site of the 2001 Holiday Meet. The two-day event attracted swim teams from the Metropolitan area and Connecticut.
Madeline Berkman, of Briarcliff Manor, set a team record and won six individual events. Madeline placed first in the 25 yd freestyle, 100 free, 25 backstroke, 25 breaststroke, 25 butterfly (16.17 - team record), and 100 individual medley.
Mt. Kisco's
Matthew Karle was a quadruple winner in the 8-under boys age group. Matthew won the 25 free, 25 back, 25 breaststroke, and 25 fly.
Mary Kate Baumann, of Armonk, placed first in three events in the 13-14 girls age group: the 200 back, 100 fly, and 200 IM.
Sarah O'Loughlin, of Pleasantville, won three events in the girls open division: 200 breaststroke, 100 fly, and 200 IM.
Seven-year-old
Danny Caiola, of Katonah, placed first in the 8-under boys 50 fly an 50 free.
Eight-year-old
Justin Potter won the 100 free and the 100 IM in the 8-under boys division.
Courtney Bannon was a double winner in the open girls division. She won the 50 and 100 free. Danielle Ulanowski won the open division 100 breaststroke and 100 back.
Martin Watkins was a double winner in the boys open division. He placed first in the 50 free and 200 fly.
Lauren Bernacchia, of Pound Ridge, won the 9-10 girls 100 IM.
Colette Salvatore, of Bedford, finished first in the 9-10 girls 100 breaststroke.
Eleven-year-old
Steffi Niessl was victorious in the 11-12 girls 50 fly.
Chappaqua's
Tara Powers placed first in the 13-14 girls 200 fly. Roxy Wacyk, of Briarcliff, won the 13-14 girls 100 breaststroke.
Ian Capsuto, of Yorktown, placed first in the open boys division 100 free. Joey Ziminsky, of Mt. Kisco, won the boys open division 200 IM.

Caroline Weston, Christy Green, and Taylor Scilufo teamed up to win the 8-under girls 100 free relay. Green, Sara Blacker, Berkman, and Scilufo won the 100 medley relay.
Christina Quaranta, Alexa Green, Emily Willhoft, and Katie Underwood placed first in the 9-10 girls 200 free relay. Underwood, Tara Clune, Lauren Bernacchia, and Quaranta won the 200 medley relay.
Mary Kate Baumann,
Chelsea Giordano, Kimi Warlaumont, and Michelle Lian won the 13-14 girls 200 medley relay.
Christine Mullaney, Danielle Ulanowski, Meghan Drexel, and Courtney Bannon placed first in the girls open division 200 free relay. Ulanowski, Katie Simco, Sarah O'Loughlin and Bannon won the 200 medley relay.
Justin Potter,
Ryan Stern, Taegan Clarke, and Matthew Karle won the 8-under boys 100 free relay. Potter, Benjamin Gebauer, Karle, and Clarke won the 100 medley relay.
Jamie Mitchell, Cory Perelman, Jesse Adler, and Ryan Mitchell placed first in the 9-20 boys 200 free relay. Adler, Ian Schneider, J. Mitchell, and R. Mitchell won the 200 medley relay.
The team of
David Gufarotti, Colby McKenna, John Burrows, and Bob Herr won the 13-14 boys 200 free relay. Gufarotti, Herr, McKenna and Chris Caputi won the 200 medley relay.
Ian Capsuto,
Chris Jankowski, Martin Watkins and Joey Ziminsky won the boys open division 200 free relay. Watkins, Corey Ashe, Kieron Nunes, and Ziminsky placed first in the 200 medley relay.

Grove Swims At US Open  

Rebecca Grove, a sixteen-year old from Yorktown, competed recently at the 2001 U.S. Open National Championships. Swimmers from all over the United States and abroad competed at the three-day meet that was held at the Nassau County Aquatic Center at Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, Long Island. 
Representing the Mt. Kisco based-Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester Marlins Swim Team, Grove swam the 100 meter backstroke (1:04.90) and the 200 back (2:21.34). She set Short Course Meter team records and qualified for National Age Group Top 16 in both events.

Marlins Go The Distance

The Mt. Kisco based-Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester
Marlins Swim Team held their 2001 Distance Meet at the Trotta Millennium Pool recently. Eleven teams participated in the one-day event.
Caren Guyett, of Yorktown, won the 12-under girls 500 yd freestyle (5:37.14). Caren also won and set a new pool record in the 11-12 girls 400 individual medley (5:07.49).
Tristan Hastings, of Somers, won and set a new pool record in the 12-under boys 500 free (5:19.55). He also took first in the 11-12 boys 400 IM and in doing so, Tristan set new pool and team records with a National Age Group Reportable Time of 4:44.16.

Little Marlins Make Waves

The Mt. Kisco-based Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester
Marlins Swim Team sent it's younger swimmers to the Middies Age Group & Mini Meet that was held recently at the White Plains YWCA.
Madeline Berkman, an eight-year-old from Briarcliff Manor, won all four events that she swam. She was victorious in the 8-under girls 50 yd freestyle, 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke and 50 butterfly.
Matthew Karle, of Mt. Kisco, won three events in the 8-under boys age group. Matthew placed first in the 50 free, 50 breaststroke and 50 fly. He placed second in the 50 back.
Sleepy Hollow's
Kim Tracey was a double winner in her last meet as a 10 year old. Kim won the 9-10 girls 50 free and 50 back, and finished second in the 50 breaststroke and 50 fly.
Tristan Hastings, of Somers, won two events in the 11-12 boys age group: the 50 free and the 50 back. Tristan placed second in the 50 breaststroke and 50 fly. The team of Daniel Simco, Anthony Simco, Adam Powell and Tristan Hastings won the 11-12 boys 200 free relay in a National Age Group Top 16 Reportable Time of 1:45.13.
Danny Caiola, of Katonah, won the 7-under boys 25 fly. He placed second in the 25 free and third in the 25 breaststroke.
Noah Hammer, of Bedford Hills, finished first in the 9-10 boys 50 fly.
Anthony Simco, of Pound Ridge, took first in the 11-12 boys 50 fly. He finished second in the 50 free and third in the 50 breaststroke.
Many Marlins placed among the top three finishers: In the 8-under age group, six-year-old
Aaron Blacker took second in the 7-under boys 25 breast and third in the 25 fly. His sister Sara placed third in the 8-under girls 50 breaststroke. Danielle Sims was second in the 7-under girls 25 fly and third in the 25 back and 25 breaststroke. Christy Green placed third in the 50 free, Hannah Marks took second in the 50 fly and Emma Woeckener took third in the 50 back and 50 fly. Marks, Woeckener, Taylor Scilufo and Berkman won the 8-under girls 200 free relay.
William Rappaport was third in the 7-under boys 25 back. Benjamin Gebauer was third in the 8-under boys 50 breaststroke, Spencer Lathrop took third in the 50 free while Justin Potter placed second in the 50 breaststroke and third in the 50 back and 50 fly. Lathrop, Alex Gatto, Potter and Karle won the 8-under boys 200 free relay.
Kim Holden placed third in the 9-10 girls 50 back. Betsy Weston, Ali Polhill, Alexandra Gorki and Kim Tracey finished first in the 9-10 girls 200 free relay.
Dakota Gordon finished third in the 9-10 boys 50 back and 50 fly. 
Hannah Fitzgibbons placed second in the 11-12 girls 50 fly and third in the 50 back. Caren Guyett took third in the 50 free and 50 breaststroke. Daniel Simco placed second in the 11-12 boys 50 back. Adam Powell earned third places in the 50 free and 50 back.

Marlins Swim At Marist Invitational

The older swimmers of the Mt. Kisco based-Boys & Girls Club Of Northern Westchester
Marlins Swim Team traveled to Poughkeepsie to compete in the Marist 2001 Fall Invitational. The three-day meet was held at the Marist College James J. McCann Recreation Center recently.
Bradley Mitchell, of Somers, won three events for the Marlins. Bradley placed first in the 13-14 boys 50 yd freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and 200 individual medley. He placed second in the 100 free and 400 IM, and third in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.
Thirteen-year-old
Meredith Bannon won the 13-14 girls 100 breaststroke. 
Yorktown's
Rebecca Grove finished first in the Women Open Division 50 free. 
Clifton Cazes, of Thornwood, captured the Men Open Division 100 breaststroke.
Thirteen-year-old
Jaymi Light, of Pleasantville, earned a second place in the 13-14 girls 100 breaststroke, and a third in the 100 fly. David Ballinger, also of Pleasantville, placed second in the 13-14 boys 100 fly.
Swimming in the Open division,
Katherine Munson finished third in the 100 back. Casey O'Meara, of Mt. Kisco, placed second in the 100 breaststroke, and third in the 50 free. Kyle Thornton took second in the 200 back and 400 IM, and third in the 100 fly. Tim Herr, of North Salem, placed third in the 100 breaststroke.

Marlins Swim At LIAC "Bruce Boehm Memorial"

The Mt. Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins participated in the "Bruce Boehm Memorial Swim Meet." The two-day competition hosted by the Long Island Aquatic Club, was held at Nassau County Aquatic Facility at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, Long Island.
Swimming in one of her last meet as a ten-year-old,
Kim Tracey, of Sleepy Hollow, garnered six first-place medals. Kim won the 10-under girls 50 yd freestyle, 100 free, 50 backstroke, 100 back, 50 butterfly and 100 fly.
Tristan Hastings, of Somers, was a quadruple winner. Tristan won the 11-12 boys 50 and 100 back earning National Age Group Top 16 Consideration in both events. Tristan also won the 100 breaststroke and the 200 individual medley.
In her last meet as a twelve-year-old,
Tara Flaherty won three events for the Marlins. Tara placed first in the 11-12 girls 50 free, 50 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke.
Yorktown's
Rebecca Grove won the women division 100 and 200 back.
Another resident of Yorktown,
Caren Guyett, won the 11-12 girls 100 free.
Anthony Simco, of Pound Ridge, placed first in the 11-12 boys 50 breaststroke.

On a weekend when the team split between two meets, several swimmers of the Mt. Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester
Marlins attended the Halloween Invitational Swim Meet. The two-day meet was hosted by the White Plains YWCA Middies Swim Team.
Eight-year-old
Madeline Berkman, of Briarcliff Manor, was a triple winner for the Marlins. Madeline won the 8-under girls 50 yd freestyle, 50 backstroke, and 50 butterfly.

Matthew Karle, of Mt. Kisco, was a triple winner in the 8-under boys age group. Matthew placed first in the 50 back, 50 breaststroke, and 50 fly events.

Danny Caiola, of Katonah, placed first in the 7-under boys 25 fly.

Emma Golden of Goldens Bridge won the 9-10 girls 100 IIM.

Records Fall At Marlins Season Opener

Records fell when the Mt. Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester
Marlins Swim Team hosted the first meet of the 2001-02 season. The two-day competition was held at the Trotta Millennium Pool.
Twelve-year-old
Tristan Hastings, of Somers, won five individual events, set one Metropolitan Swimming record, two team records, and qualified for National Age Group Top 16 Consideration in two events. Tristan won the 11-12 boys 200 yd breaststroke (2:30.27 - Metro & Team records), the 50 backstroke (28.15 - Top 16), the 100 back (1:00.40 - Top 16), the 200 back (2:12.68 - Team record), and the 100 butterfly (1:02.41).
Two ten-year-old girls were quadruple winners for the Marlins.
Steffi Niessl placed first in the 9-10 girls 100 freestyle (1:03.57), 100 fly (1:16.47), 100 Individual Medley (1:14.31), and 50 fly (33.26). Kim Tracey won the 50 back (32.49), 100 breaststroke (1:29.23), 100 back (1:11.29), and 50 breaststroke (41.09).
Madeline Berkman, and eight-year-old from Briarcliff Manor, won the three events she swam. She placed first in the 8-under girls 50 free (36.51), 50 back (40.98), and 50 fly (40.38). All three were personal best times.
Tara Flaherty was also a triple winner. Tara won the 11-12 girls 50 breaststroke (34.60), 100 breaststroke (1:15.54), and 200 breaststroke (2:43.83).
Anthony Simco, a twelve-year-old from Pound Ridge, won and set a new team record in the 11-12 boys 200 fly (2:23.88). Anthony also placed first in the 50 fly (28.12), and the 50 breaststroke (34.02).
Nine Marlins were double winners:
Matthew Karle, of Mount Kisco, placed first in the 8-under boys 50 free (34.84), and 50 breaststroke (42.99). Katonah's Mark Caiola, 10, won the 9-10 boys 100 free (1:08.68), and the 100 IM (1:19.02). Hannah Fitzgibbons, of Mt. Kisco, won the 11-12 girls 50 fly (30.32) and 50 back (31.44). Caren Guyett, of Yorktown, won the 11-12 girls 200 free (2:08.52), and the 200 IM (2:25.93). Swimming in her first meet for the Marlins, eleven-year-old Alyssa Potter won and set a new team record in the 11-12 girls 200 fly (2:28.61). She also placed first in the 100 fly (1:08.75). Simon Hammer, of Bedford Hills, took first place in the 13-14 boys 200 IM (2:08.57), and 100 breaststroke (1:04.88). Yorktown's Rebecca Grove placed first in the Women Open division 200 IM (2:13.65) and the 200 back (2:11.87). Kyle Thornton, 17, won the Men Open division 200 IM (2:04.09) and 200 back (2:05.32). Mount Kisco's Casey O'Meara won the Men Open division 50 free (23.31), and the 100 breaststroke (1:03.98).
