Sims & Asaga Swim At Long Course Eastern Zones
 
Danielle Sims and Kazu Asaga represented the Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins on the Metropolitan Team that competed in the 2004 Eastern Zone All-Star Long Course Swimming Championships. The four-day meet was held at Erie Community College in Buffalo, New York.
Sims, a ten-year-old girl from Armonk swam the 10-under girls 50 meter backstroke (39.33L), 100 back (1:25.41L), 50 butterfly (35.59L), 100 fly (1:22.94L), and 200 IM (3:03.59L). She earned two silver medals as a member of 2 Metropolitan relays: the 400 medley relay in which she swam the backstroke leg with a personal best time of 1:23.05L, and the 200 medley relay.
Asaga, a thirteen-year-old from Chappaqua, swam the 13-14 boys 50 free (27.80L), 100 free (1:01.53L), 200 free (2:19.18L), and 200 back (2:33.91L).
The Marlins will hold try-outs for new members, at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester, September 8-10. Interested swimmers are asked to call the club at 914-666-8069 to make an appointment.

Long Course Records Fall At NCSA Junior Nationals
 
The Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins set twelve new long course records at the 2004 NCSA Summer Junior Nationals. Four Marlins attended the five-day championship meet that was held recently at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California.
Fifteen-year-old Caren Guyett, of Yorktown, set seven long course records and achieved eight personal best times: 100 meter freestyle (1:01.77L), 200 free (2:10.33L -- record), 400 free (4:31.72L -- record), 800 free (9:10.03L -- record), 1500 free (17:38.86L -- record), 100 butterfly (1:07.61L) -- record), 200 individual medley (2:28.93L -- record), and 400 IM (5:08.20L -- record).
Meredith Bannon, of Katonah, achieved four personal best times and set three team records: 50 free (29.68L), 50 breaststroke (35.60L - record), 100 breaststroke (1:17.96L -- record), and 200 breaststroke (2:50.61L -- record).
Bradley Mitchell, of Somers, set two team records and swam personal best times in all six events in which he competed: 50 free (25.93L), 50 breaststroke (31.32L - record), 100 breaststroke (1:07.84L), 200 breaststroke (2:27.91L -- record), 200 IM (2:18.91L), and 400 IM (4:49.89L).
Somers resident Tristan Hastings swam to personal best times in two events: the 50 backstroke (29.78L) and the 200 IM (2:19.42L). Tristan also participated in the 100 back and the 400 IM.

Marlins Swim At Long Course Junior Olympics
 
Several swimmers of the Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins participated in the 2004 Metropolitan Swimming Long Course Junior Olympics. The three-day meet was held recently at the Lehman College APEX Aquatic Center in the Bronx.
Tristan Hastings, of Somers, won the 15-18 boys 100 meter backstroke (1:06.04L) and 400 Individual Medley (5:03.55L). He placed second in the 200 IM, third in the 200 breaststroke, and fourth in the 100 butterfly.
Danielle Sims, of Armonk, won the 10-under girls 200 IM (2:57.45L). She placed fifth in the 50 back.
Meredith Bannon, of Katonah, placed first in the 15-18 girls 100 breaststroke (1:19.98L).
Benjamin Gebauer of Yorktown earned an eighth place in the 10-under boys 50 breaststroke.
Brewster's Ali Polhill finished sixth and set a team record in the 11-12 girls 200 fly (3:05.82).
Nick Charriez, of Mohegan Lake, finished second in the 11-12 boys 50 back and 200 fly (2:50.40L -- team record), third in the 50 and 100 fly, fourth in the 100 back, fifth in the 200 back (2:44.72L -- team record), sixth in the 50 breaststroke and 200 IM, and seventh in the 50 free.
Greg Charriez, also of Mohegan Lake, placed sixth in the 50 back and seventh in the 200 back.
Kazu Asaga, of Chappaqua, placed fourth in the 13-14 boys 100 free, fifth in the 200 fly, and seventh in the 100 fly, and in the 50, 200 and 400 free.
Drew Polhill, of Brewster, placed sixth in the 13-14 boys 200 IM, seventh in the 100 breaststroke and eighth in the 100 fly.
Tara Flaherty of Hastings-On-Hudson finished seventh in the 15-18 girls 50 free, and eighth in the 100 breaststroke.
Yorktown Sarah Guyett placed fourth in both the 15-18 girls 100 fly and 200 IM.
Christine Tartaglia of Brewster finished second in the 15-18 girls 100 breaststroke.
Somers Bradley Mitchell placed third in the 15-18 boys 200 IM and fourth in the 100 breaststroke.
Caren Guyett of Yorktown, Meredith Bannon, Tristan Hastings and Bradley Mitchell will compete at the NCSA Junior Nationals Long Course Championships at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, in August. At the same time, Danielle Sims and Kazu Asaga will compete at the 2004 Eastern Zone Long Course All-star Swimming Championships in Buffalo, New York.

Marlins Swim at Long Course Senior Metropolitan
 
In mid-July, the Marlins sent nine swimmers to the 2004 Senior Metropolitan Swimming Championships. The four-day meet was held at the Nassau County Aquatic Center, Eisenhower Park, in East Meadow, Long Island.
Caren Guyett, of Yorktown, set five teams records in the women's open division: the 400 meter freestyle (4:42.92L), 800 free (9:49.83L), 1500 free (18:22.22L), 200 breaststroke (2:54.11L), and 200 individual medley (2:33.13L).
Somers Tristan Hastings set two team records in the men's open division: the 800 free (9:33.14L) and the 1500 free (18:01.13L).
Meredith Bannon, Sarah Guyett, Paige Mellars, Bradley Mitchell, Christine Tartaglia, Kim Tracey and Betsy Weston also participated.

Caren Guyett Places Fourth At 5K Open Water Nationals
 
Yorktown resident Caren Guyett, of the Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins, was one of two swimmers from the area invited by USA-Swimming to participate in an Open Water Swim Camp in Fort Myers, Florida. Aleksa Akerfelds of the White Plains YWCA Middies attended the camp as well.
The culmination of the camp was the swimmers' participation in the 2004 USA-Swimming 5K Open Water National Championships that took place near Lynn Hall Park/Fort Myers Beach. Caren finished fourth in the women division with a personal and team record time of 1 hour 9:24.00. Caren finished the race as the fastest swimmer in the 14-under division.

Marlins Set Records at Summertime Invitational
 
Swimming in their last meet in the 9-10 girls age group, Maddy Berkman, Taylor Scilufo and Caroline Weston set seven new team records for the Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Swim Team. The Marlins traveled to Long Island at the beginning of June to participate in the 2004 Long Island Long Course Summertime Invitational at the Nassau County Aquatic Center.
Maddy Berkman, of Briarcliff Manor, won and set team records in three events. She placed first in the 10-under girls 50 meter butterfly (34.34L), 100 fly (1:17.47L - NAG Top 16 reportable time) and the 200 individual medley (2:54.29L). Maddy placed second in the 50 and 100 breaststroke, and in the 200 freestyle.
Taylor Scilufo, also of Briarcliff Manor, was a triple winner and set team records in two events: the 10-under girls 100 free (1:11.12L) and the 200 free (2:35.67L). Taylor also won the 100 backstroke (1:23.85L), placed second in the 200 IM, and third in the 50 & 100 breaststroke.
Caroline Weston, of Katonah, placed first and set team records in the 10-under girls 50 breaststroke (41.27L) and 100 breaststroke (1:30.57L). She placed fourth in the 100 fly and 200 IM.
Steffi Niessl, of Brewster, won the 13-14 girls 100 fly (1:09.75L). She placed second in the 50 free, third in the 100 back, fourth in the 200 fly, and fifth in the 200 back.
Drew Polhill, also of Brewster, won the 13-14 boys 100 breaststroke (1:17.46L). Drew took third in the 200 breaststroke, fourth in the 200 IM, fifth in the 100 fly, and seventh in the 200 fly.
Bradley Mitchell, of Somers, won the men's open division 50 free (L 26.17), placed second in the 200 breaststroke and fifth in the 200 IM.
Tristan Hastings, also of Somers, set a team record in the men's open division 1500 free (18:01.13L). He finished seventh in the event. Tristan also placed second in the 100 back and 200 IM.

Marlins Swim at Spring Kickoff
 
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins Swim Team participated in the 2004 LIAC Spring Kickoff Invitational. The two-day meet hosted by the Long Island Aquatic Club was held at the Nassau County Aquatic Center at Eisenhower Park. It was the first time that many of the young swimmers competed in a 50 meters long course pool.
Caroline Weston, of Katonah, won and set a team record in the 10-under girls 50 meter breaststroke (42.28L) and won the 100 breaststroke (1:34.93L). She finished seventh in the 50 backstroke. 
Taylor Scilufo, of Briarcliff Manor, won the 10-under girls 100 freestyle (1:13.11L). She placed second in the 50 & 100 back, 50 free, 50 breaststroke, and fourth in the 50 butterfly.
Alexandra Gorki, of Chappaqua, placed second and set a new team record in the 11-12 girls 50 breaststroke (38.88L). She finished second in the 200 individual medley.
Haruka Tanaka, of Pleasantville, set a team record in the 11-12 girls 200 breaststroke (3:08.79) in which she placed third.
Nick Charriez, of Mohegan Lake, set team records in the 11-12 boys 200 backstroke (2:50.28L) and in the 200 fly (2:55.15L). He placed second in the 50 back and 100 fly.
Other Marlins placing among the top eight were: Greg Charriez, Braden Clarke, Benjamin Gebauer, Caren Guyett, Tristan Hastings, Sabine Holmes, Jared Krosser, Alyssa Potter, Justin Potter, Will Rappaport, Danielle Sims, and Betsy Weston.

Marlins Won Boys & Girls Clubs Nationals
 

The Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins Swim Team won their fifth consecutive National title at the 2004 Speedo Boys & Girls Clubs National Short Course Swimming Championships.    
 The three-day meet was held in early April at the North Shore Pool in
St. Petersburg, Florida. The Tampa based-Carrollwood Village Swim Team hosted the 19th Annual Swimming Championships.

 The Marlins won the meet with a cumulative score of 10,717.50 points. Carrollwood Village Swim Team finished in second place overall with 4,411 points. They were followed by the Greater Newark Boys & Girls Club (1,616 points) and the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Nashua (1,527.50 points).

 Taylor Scilufo, of Briarcliff Manor, won the 10-under girls First Place High Point Award by scoring the maximum of 160 points. Taylor won the gold in all her events: the 50 yd freestyle (29.63), 100 free (1:04.87), 200 free (2:21.45), 500 free (6:08.42), 50 backstroke (33.81), 100 back (1:11.73), 100 individual medley (1:13.17), and 200 IM (2:36.43).

 Caren Guyett of Yorktown, who received the 13-14 girls First Place High Point Award, also scored the maximum of 160 points. Caren won the 50 free (25.33), 100 free (54.79), 200 free (1:55.66), 500 free (5:07.32), 100 yd breaststroke (1:10.69), 200 yd breaststroke (2:28.65), 100 yd butterfly (1:00.15), and 400 yd IM (4:39.27).

 Kim Tracey, Michelle Horner, Nadine Follini and C. Guyett teamed up to win the 13-14 girls 200 free relay (1:46.24). Tracey, Maxine Kutner, Hannah Fitzgibbons and C. Guyett joined forces to win the 200 medley relay (2:00.19).

 Aaron Blacker, of Mount Kisco, scored 157 points to win the First Place High Point Award in the 8-under division. Aaron won and set new championship meet records in the 25 back (17.26) and in the 25 fly (15.04). He also finished first in the 50 free (32.00), 50 back (38.80), 50 breaststroke (42.57), 50 fly (34.30), and 100 IM (1:23.04).

 Nine-year-old Will Rappaport, of Pound Ridge, won the First place High Point Award in the 10-under boys age group. Will scored 154 points. He won the 200 (2:27.30) and 500 free (6:37.15), 50 back (35.48), 50 (33.77) and 100 fly (1:16.52), and the 200 IM (2:43.60).

 Sarah Guyett, of Yorktown, scored 148 points and won the First Place High Point Award in the women division. Sarah won the 100 back (1:00.05), the 100 fly (1:01.78), the 200 (2:13.97) IM and 400 IM (4:42.08).

 Senior Christine Tartaglia, of Brewster, won the women 100 breaststroke (1:09.09) and the 200 breaststroke (2:26.72).

 Tara Flaherty, Paige Mellars, Meredith Bannon and S. Guyett finished first in the women 200 freestyle relay (1:45.35). S. Guyett, Tartaglia, Sarah O'Loughlin, and Danielle Ulanowski teamed up to win the 200 medley relay (1:56.81).

 Alison Davis, of Armonk, scored 146 points to win the 8-under girls first place High Point Award. Alison earned gold medals in the 25 free (16.43), 50 free (35.40), 25 fly (17.84), and 50 fly (41.83).
 
Wendy Woeckener, from Pleasantville, won the second place Award for the 8-under girls division (142 points). Wendy placed first in the 25 breaststroke (21.39) and the 100 IM (1:29.81).

 Lauren Perschetz, of Armonk, scored 129 points and received the third place Award. Lauren won the 8-under girls 100 free (1:22.26) and 50 breaststroke (46.48).

 The team of W. Woeckener, Perschetz, Olivia Lindenberg, and Davis won the 8-under girls 100 free relay (1:09.16). Lindenberg, Perschetz, W. Woeckener, and Davis teamed up to win the 100 medley relay (1:19.14).

 Alex Rosen, of Mount Kisco, scored 145 points and earned the second place Award in the 8-under boys division. Alex won the 25 free (15.09), 100 free (1:13.42), and 25 breaststroke (20.90).

 Stephen Shine, of Briarcliff Manor, received the 8-under boys third place Award (131 points).

 A. Blacker, Rosen, Shine and Ian Cooper won the 8-under boys 100 free relay (1:03.79). Shine, Rosen, A. Blacker and Cooper won the 100 medley relay (1:16.49).

 Danielle Sims, of Armonk, scored 138 points and received the second place Award in the 10-under girls division. Danielle won the 50 fly (31.91), and 100 fly (1:13.46).

 Caroline Weston, of Katonah, won the 10-under girls 50 breaststroke (37.57), and 100 breaststroke (1:22.04).

 D. Sims, Lizzy Balter, Sonja Gspurning, and Scilufo joined forces to win the 10-under girls 200 freestyle relay (2:06.87). Scilufo, C. Weston, D. Sims and Briggs Sgaglio won the 200 medley relay (2:17.16).

 Bradley Mitchell, of Somers, received the second place Award in the men's division (143 points). Mitchell won the 100 breaststroke (59.76), the 200 breaststroke (2:09.94), and the 200 (1:58.06) and 400 IM (4:12.87).

 Chappaqua's Lowell Byers, who scored 136 points, earned the third place Award in the men's division. Byers finished first in the 50 (21.84) and 100 free (47.86).

 Adam Powell, of Pound Ridge, finished first in the men's 100 back (54.93).

 Pleasantville resident David Ballinger took first in the men 200 back (2:00.34).

 Brad Thornton of Hastings-on-Hudson, won the men 100 fly (53.31).

 Powell, Thornton, Mitchell and Byers won the men 200 free relay (1:28.92). Byers, Mitchell, Thornton, and Ian Capsuto won the men 200 medley relay (1:43.70).

 Sabine Holmes, of Chappaqua, won the 11-12 girls 50 (35.95) and 100 breaststroke (1:16.25).

 Betsy Weston, of Katonah, scored 130 points and received

the third place Award in the 11-12 girls division.

 Ali Polhill, Melissa Fanelli, Christina Quaranta and B. Weston teamed up to win the 11-12 girls 200 freestyle relay (1:50.97). Kim Holden, Holmes, A. Polhill, and B. Weston won the 200 medley relay (2:04.93).

 Matthew Hadley, of Chappaqua, scored 138 points. Matt, who won the 50 free (27.16), received the second place Award in the 11-12 boys division.

 Nick Charriez, of Mohegan Lake, earned the third place Award and scored 126 points in the 11-12 boys age group. Nick won the 100 fly (1:08.85). His twin brother Greg Charriez won the 11-12 boys 50 back (30.78).

 Joe Zanellato, N. Charriez, G. Charriez, and Hadley won the 11-12 boys 200 free relay (1:50.70). G. Charriez, Zanellato, N. Charriez and Hadley won the 200 medley relay (2:04.83).

 Evan Palumbo, of Yorktown, received the second place Award in the 13-14 boys division (138.50 points). Evan finished first in the 1650 free (18:33.88) and in the 100 (1:07.56) and 200 breaststroke (2:26.04).

 Chappaqua's Kazu Asaga won the 13-14 boys 100 back (1:01.13).

 Dylan Morris, also from Chappaqua, won the 13-14 boys 200 free (1:57.24).

Drew Polhill, of Brewster, scored 133 points and earned the third place Award in the 13-14 boys division.

Marlins Make Waves At Eastern Zones
 
Seven members of the Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins Swim Team were part of the Metropolitan team that attended the USA-Swimming Eastern Zone All-star Short Course Championships. The Eastern Zone is made up of 12 local swimming conferences: Adirondack, Allegheny Mountain, Connecticut, Maryland, Maine, Metropolitan, Middle Atlantic, New England, New Jersey, Niagara, Potomac Valley, and Virginia.
The three-day meet was held April 1-3, at the George Mason University's Freedom Aquatic & Fitness Center in Manassas, Virginia.
Swimming in his last meet as a fourteen-year-old, Tristan Hastings of Somers was a quadruple winner, set three team records, qualified for NCSA Junior Nationals in two events and for National Age Group Top 16 Consideration in four events. Hastings won the 13-14 boys 100 yd backstroke (52.82 - JN - Top 16 - Team record), the 200 back (1:53.82 - JN - Top 16 - Team record), the 200 freestyle (1:44.79 - Top 16), and the 200 individual medley (1:56.41 - Top 16 - Team record). Hastings placed sixth in the 100 free (49.12).
Maddy Berkman, of Briarcliff Manor, qualified for NAG Top 16 and set a team record in the 10-under girls 100 butterfly (1:07.09). She placed second in the event. Maddy earned the silver medal in the 50 fly (30.48). She finished sixth in the 50 breaststroke (35.72), and seventh in the 100 breaststroke (1:18.36). Maddy swam in the Metropolitan 10-under girls 200 free relay which placed first, in the 400 free relay which finished second. She swam the butterfly leg of the 200 medley relay which placed first.
Matthew Karle, of Mount Kisco, also qualified for NAG Top 16 consideration. Matthew placed second in the 10-under boys 100 breaststroke (1:14.99 - NAG Top 16), third in the 50 breaststroke (34.81 - NAG Top 16), and fifth in the 100 IM (1:09.93). Matthew swam the breaststroke in the Metropolitan 10-under boys 200 medley relay which took first place.
Daniel Simco, of Pound Ridge, placed second in the 13-14 boys 100 back (54.23 - NAG Top 16), fourth in the 200 back (1:58.34 - NAG Top 16), seventh in the 100 fly (55.16) and 200 IM (2:02.03), and eighth in the 400 IM (4:35.82).
Anthony Simco, of Pound Ridge, took seventh in the 13-14 boys 200 breaststroke (2:20.17).
Melissa Trail (Pound Ridge) and Braden Clarke (Chappaqua) participated in the All-star meet as well.
Hastings led off the Metropolitan 13-14 boys 400 free relay which placed fourth. He swam the third leg of the Metropolitan 200 free relay which finished third. Hastings, A. Simco, D. Simco and Liang Truman (NYCC) finished fourth in the 13-14 boys 400 medley relay.

Marlins Swim At Age Group Championships North
 
The Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins Swim Team participated in the Age Group Championships North at the end of March. The Viking Aquatic Club hosted the three-day-meet at the Valley Central Natatorium in Montgomery, New York.
The following Marlins were among the top three finishers in the Age Group Division in their respective groups. In the 9-10 girls: Brigid Reilly, Melissa Whelan, Alexandra Rota, Olivia Olinger, Kaitlyn Guttridge, and Lizzy Balter. In the 11-12 girls division: Deirdre Powers, Marissa Horner, Christina Quaranta, and Racquel Giner. Molly Simon and Jessica Mann placed in the 13-14 girls division and Sarah Yergeau placed in the 15-18 girls division.
In the 9-10 boys division: Hanbin Wang, Henry Simon, Jake Rosenbloom, Jared Krosser, Kurt Wasserman, David Ashinsky, Sam Johnson, Josh Tesser and Chris Lattarulo. In the 11-12 boys division: Giancarlo Pecora, Dean Silverman, David Bush, Alec Sherman, and Fumi Asaga. Adam Weiner placed in the 13-14 boys division.
Many Marlins finished in the top three overall: Roxy Rappaport, Caroline Weston, Melissa Trail, Christy Green, Briggs Sgaglio, Taylor Scilufo, Christina Quaranta, Micah Sims, Betsy Weston, Haruka Tanaka, Katie Underwood, Sabine Holmes, Kim Holden, Hayley Perelman, Benjamin Gebauer, Taegan Clarke, Matthew Hadley, Joe Zanellato, and Greg Charriez.

Marlins Place High At Junior Nationals
 
The NCSA Junior Nationals Swimming Championships were held recently at the YMCA Aquatic Center in Orlando, Florida. More than one hundred teams from all over the USA participated in this prestigious competition. The Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins Swim Team finished in sixteenth place overall with a combined scored of 179 points. The Marlins men scored 149 points to finish in sixth place. Ten Marlins, accompanied by Head Coach David Ellinghaus and Assistant Coach Carolyn Johnson, competed in the meet.
Fourteen-year-old Caren Guyett of Yorktown qualified for the NCSA Junior Nationals Futures Team and for the US Open Swimming Championships in the 1000 and 1650 freestyle. Caren took sixth in the women 1000 yd freestyle (10:07.02 - team record - NAG Top 16) and sixth in the 1650 free (16:54.35 - team record - NAG Top 16). She set team records in the 200 free (1:53.55 - NAG Top 16), in the 100 fly (59.98) and in the 400 Individual Medley (4:31.61). Caren also swam the 100 free, 500 free, and 200 IM.
Bradley Mitchell, a sixteen-year-old from Somers, qualified for the NCSA Junior Nationals Futures Team and for the US Open Swimming Championships in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Brad placed fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:04.39 - team record - NAG Top 16) and sixth in the 100 breaststroke (57.37 - NAG Top 16). Brad also swam the 50 breaststroke, 50 free, 200 and 400 IM.
Lowell Byers, of Chappaqua, placed ninth in the men 50 free (21.31). Byers swam the 100 free (46.90 - team record - NAG Top 16), the 200 free and the 100 fly.
Christine Tartaglia, of Brewster, placed 13th in the women 50 breaststroke (30.63 - team record). Christine also swam the 100 & 200 breaststroke and the 50 free.
Meredith Bannon, Sarah Guyett, Simon Hammer, Tristan Hastings, Alyssa Potter and Brad Thornton also swam in individual and time trials events at the meet.
The team of Hastings, Mitchell, Thornton and Byers qualified for the US Open and set a team record in the men 400 medley relay (3:29.29 - 5th place). The same quartet finished fifth in the 200 medley relay (1:36.15 - team record).
Teammates Hammer, Thornton, Mitchell and Byers finished third in the 200 free relay (1:26.21 - team record). Mitchell, Thornton, Hammer and Byers placed seventh in the 400 free relay (3:10.94 - team record).
Sarah Guyett, Tartaglia, Potter and Caren Guyett set a new team record in the women 200 medley relay (1:50.93). The same four swimmers placed 19th in the 400 medley relay (4:00.39)

Marlins Qualify For Zone Team
 
The Metropolitan Zone Team Qualifier Meet took place recently at the Lehman College APEX Aquatic facility in the Bronx. Seven members of the Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins Swim Team qualified for the 2004 Eastern Zone All-Star Short Course Swimming Championships. The top two finishers in each event qualified for this prestigious meet that will be held April 1-3 at the George Mason University's Freedom Aquatic & Fitness Center in Manassas, Virginia. The USA-Swimming Eastern Zone is made up of twelve conferences: Adirondack, Alleghany Mountain, Connecticut, Middle Atlantic, Maryland, Maine, Metropolitan, New England, New Jersey, Niagara, Potomac Valley and Virginia. Each swimmer may swim a maximum of six events at Zones.
Fourteen-year-old Tristan Hastings, of Somers, qualified in eight events. Tristan won the 13-14 boys 200 yd backstroke with a NCSA Junior National qualifying time of 1:54.13 (team record - NAG Top 16). He also placed first in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.94), 200 freestyle (1:47.78), 400 Individual Medley (4:14.85 - NAG Top 16), 200 IM (1:59.23 - NAG Top 16), 200 breaststroke (2:15.80), and 100 backstroke (53.88). Hastings took second in the 100 free.
Daniel Simco, of Pound Ridge, won the 13-14 boys 100 butterfly (55.14). He took second in the 200 & 400 IM, 100 back (54.97 - NAG Top 16) & 200 back (1:58.49 (NAG Top 16). Daniel placed third in the 100 breaststroke.
Anthony Simco, of Pound Ridge, qualified first in the 13-14 boys 200 breaststroke (2:21.79). He placed second in the 100 breaststroke and third in the 200 fly.
The team of Hastings, A. Simco, D. Simco and Adam Powell set a new Metropolitan and Team Record in a time trials in the 13-14 boys 400 medley relay (3:41.31 - NAG Top 16).
Matthew Karle, of Mount Kisco, won the 10-under boys 100 breaststroke (1:15.55 - NAG Top 16), and 50 breaststroke (35.06 - NAG Top 16). Matthew placed second in the 100 IM.
Maddy Berkman, of Briarcliff Manor, won the 10-under girls 100 fly (1:07.98 - NAG Top 16). She placed second in the 50 & 100 breaststroke, 50 fly, and 50 back. Maddy placed third in the 200 free, and in the 100 & 200 IM.
Taylor Scilufo, of Briarcliff Manor, qualified second in the 100, 200 and 500 free. Taylor, who will attend the Boys & Girls Clubs Nationals that will be held in Florida at the same time as Zones, finished third in the 100 breaststroke.
Braden Clarke, of Chappaqua, qualified second in the 11-12 boys 200 back. He placed third in the 50 back.
Melissa Trail, of Pound Ridge, will join the Zone Team in the 10-under girls 500 free. Melissa also placed third and set a team record in the 100 back (1:09.34).
Alexandra Gorki, of Chappaqua, set team records in the 11-12 girls 100 breaststroke (1:10.67) and in the 200 breaststroke (2:31.41 - NAG Top 16).
The following Marlins also placed in the top eight finishers at the Zone Qualifier meet: Nick Charriez, Noah Hammer, Steffi Niessl, Will Rappaport, Briggs Sgaglio, Danielle Sims, and Caroline Weston.

Marlins Set Team Records At Speedo Champions Series
 
Eleven members of the Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins Swim Team attended the 2004 USA Swimming Speedo Champions Series that was held recently at the Nassau Aquatic Center at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, NY. Ninety-six teams from the Eastern United States participated in the four-day competition.
Lowell Byers, of Chappaqua, set a new long course team record in the men 50 meter freestyle (24.97L). He finished fourteenth in the event. Lowell also swam the 100 backstroke.
Caren Guyett, of Yorktown, set three team records at this year's competition: 13-14 girls 100 breaststroke (1:21.74L) set at the 100 split in the 200 breaststroke (2:49.95L - team record). Caren set her third record in the 400 freestyle (4:39.19L).
Christine Tartaglia, of Brewster, set a team record in the women 100 breaststroke (1:19.62L) while Meredith Bannon, of Putnam Valley, set the record in the women 200 breaststroke (2:54.89L).
Brad Thornton, of Hastings-On-Hudson, swam in the bonus final of the men 50 free and placed 23rd in the event.
Tristan Hastings of Somers qualified for 13-14 boys National Age Group Top 16 consideration in the 100 back (1:06.60L).
Tara Flaherty, of Hastings-on-Hudson swam the 50 free; Sarah Guyett of Yorktown competed in the 100 back.
Simon Hammer, of Bedford Hills and Bradley Mitchell of Somers swam the 50 free and 200 breaststroke; Daniel Simco of Pound Ridge competed in the 100 back.

Marlins Set Metro Records At 8-Under Championships
 
Eight-year-old Aaron Blacker joined the Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins Swim Team in September 2001 as a six-year-old. His commitment and hard work paid off recently as he set a new Metropolitan Record at the annual Metropolitan 8 and Under Swimming Championships. The two-day meet, hosted by the Three Village Swim Club, was held recently at Ward Melville High School in East Setauket, Long Island.
Blacker, a Mount Kisco resident, won the High Point Award in the 8-year-old boys age group by scoring the maximum of 120 points. He won all six events he competed in and set a new Metropolitan and team record in the 8-under boys 25 yd backstroke (16.29). Aaron also won the 50 back (38.19), the 25 butterfly (14.74), the 50 fly (33.60), the 25 freestyle (14.18) and the 100 individual medley (1:20.64).
Alex Rosen, also of Mount Kisco, scored 104 points and won the third place award in the 8-year-old boys age group. Alex finished first in the 50 free (34.35) and 100 free (1:14.25). He took second in the 25 & 50 breaststroke and in the 25 free.
Risten Clarke, of Chappaqua, took third in the 8-year-old boys 25 and 100 free.
The team of Sean Lyons, Alex Rosen, Aaron Blacker and Risten Clarke set a new Metropolitan and team Record in the 8-under boys 200 medley relay (2:37.64). The same quartet won the 8-under boys 100 medley relay (1:12.32), and the 200 free relay (2:19.56 - team record). The team of Clarke, Rosen, Stephen Shine and Blacker won the 8-under boys 100 free relay (1:03.25).
Scoring 85 points, Erica Silverman, of Somers, won the second place High Point Award in the six-under girls division. Erica won the 50 back (54.13), and placed second in the 25 free (21.58), 50 free (50.05), and 25 fly (25.81).
Heidi Gspurning of Yorktown won the 7-year-old girls 25 breaststroke (23.20) and took a second place in the 50 breaststroke. Emily Parish of Chappaqua won the 7-under girls 50 breaststroke (52.17). Maggie McGetrick of Mount Kisco placed third in the 6-under girls 50 free.
Alison Davis of Armonk placed third in the 8-year-old girls 25 free and 50 back.
Luke Salvatore, of Bedford, placed third in the 7-under boys 50 breaststroke.
Wendy Woeckener, of Pleasantville, finished third in the 8-year-old girls 25 fly.
Corie Levine, Gspurning, Abby Kuhn and Kayla Brooks teamed up to win the 7-under girls 100 medley relay (1:30.59). Levine, Parish, Kuhn and Brooks joined forces to win the 7-under girls 200 medley relay (3:21.64). Teammates Sarah Offman, Parish, Amanda Rota and Sydney Marks placed second in the 7-under girls 100 medley relay. Gspurning, Marks, Paris and Brooks placed third in the 7-under girls 200 free relay. Brooks, Gspurning, Julia Fortier and Marks took third in the 100 free relay. Isabella Berland, Gspurning, Rota and Fortier finished in third place in the 200 medley relay.
The team of Olivia Lindenberg, Lauren Perschetz, Woeckener and Davis won the 8-under girls 100 medley relay (1:18.75) and placed third in the 200 medley relay. Eileen Huang, Davis, Perschetz, and Woeckener took second in the 8-under girls 200 free relay.
Bobby Potenza, Salvatore, Ian Cooper and Michael Lyons joined forces to place third in the 7-under boys 100 and the 200 medley relays.

Marlins Place At Senior Mets
 
The Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins senior team participated in the 2004 Senior Metropolitan Short Course Swimming Championships. The four-day meet was held recently at the Lehman College APEX in the Bronx. The meet format which offered three heats of finals at night (Finals, Consols and Bonus) scored the top 24 swimmers in each event.
With 29 teams scoring in the meet, the Marlins finished in sixth place in the combined team scores (602 points). The Long Island Aquatic Club won this year's championships.
Meredith Bannon, of Putnam Valley, made her first Junior National Cut in the women 100 yd breaststroke during the morning preliminaries (1:06.58). She placed second in the event that same night (1:06.78). Bannon finished tenth in the 200 breaststroke.
Fourteen-year-old Caren Guyett of Yorktown qualified for Junior Nationals in the women 200 individual medley (2:08.86 - team record) in which she placed fifth. Caren also set a team record and placed fifth in the 100 freestyle (53.27). She finished sixth in the 500 free (5:00.54 - NAG Top 16). Caren finished in 12th place in the 200 breaststroke.
Fourteen-year-old Tristan Hastings, of Somers swam six personal best times, qualified for three National Age Group Top 16 consideration times and set one team record at this year's meet. Tristan finished third in the 100 backstroke (54.01 - NAG Top 16), fourth in the 200 back (1:54.83 - NAG Top 16 - Team Record), fourth in the 400 IM (4:12.74 - NAG Top 16), and eighth in the 200 breaststroke (2:15.33). Tristan swam to a personal best time in the backstroke while leading off the 400 medley relay (53.59). Hastings placed tenth in the 100 breaststroke and 19th in the 100 free.
Sarah Guyett, of Yorktown, placed seventh in the women 100 back (1:01.18).
Bradley Mitchell, of Somers, finished fourth in the men 200 breaststroke (2:10.82) and 11th in the 200 IM.
Lowell Byers, of Chappaqua, finished sixth in the men 50 free (21.92) and 11th in the 100 back.
Also placing in the top 24 were: David Ballinger, Mary Kate Baumann, Andrew Palumbo, Adam Powell, Daniel Simco, Christine Tartaglia, and Brad Thornton.

Marlins Dominate At Junior Olympics
 
The Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins Swim Team dominated the 2004 metropolitan Junior Olympics Swimming Championships that was held recently at the Lehman College APEX in the Bronx.
The Marlins 13-14 squad scored 1,524.50 points to win the Team Combined Award. The Marlins 10-and-under scored 945.50 points to win the 10-under Team Combined Award while the 11-12 Marlins placed second in their age group with 735.50 points.
Scoring a total of 172 points Tristan Hastings of Somers won the 13-14 boys High Point. Tristan won seven events in his age group: the 200 (1:49.32) and 500 yd freestyle (4:54.62), 100 (55.10) and 200 backstroke (1:59.91), 100 breaststroke (1:05.43), 200 (2:03.05) and 400 Individual Medley (4:23.17). He placed third in the 100 free and 200 fly.
Caren Guyett of Yorktown scored a total of 170 points to win the 13-14 girls age group. Caren won the 100 (53.57), 200 (1:56.53) and 500 free (5:02.00), the 100 breaststroke 91:07.87), and the 200 (2:10.73) and 400 IM (4:37.33). She placed second in the 200 breaststroke & 200 back, and third in the 200 fly.
Maddy Berkman of Briarcliff Manor set three team records and scored 152 points in the 10-under girls age group. Maddy placed first in the 100 fly with a team record and National Age Group Top 16 consideration time of 1:07.53. She placed second in the 200 free, 50 back, 50 breaststroke, 50 fly, 200 IM (2:29.06 - team record) and third in the 500 free (6:04.15 - team record) and 100 IM.
Daniel Simco, of Pound Ridge, scored 143 points in the 13-14 boys age group. Daniel took second in the 100 fly, 400 IM, 100 & 200 back, and third in the 100 breaststroke and 200 IM.
Matthew Karle of Mount Kisco scored 113 points in the 10-under boys age group. Matthew won the 50 breaststroke with a NAG Top 16 consideration time of 35.11. He finished second in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.96 - NAG Top 16), and third in the 100 IM.
Alyssa Potter of New Fairfield, CT, tied for third with 99 points. Alyssa won the 13-14 girls 100 fly (1:01.22) and 200 fly (2:12.82 - team record). She finished third in the 400 IM.
Kim Holden of Mount Kisco won the 11-12 girls 50 back (29.25) and placed second in the 100 back. 
Meredith Bannon of Putnam Valley won the 15-18 girls 100 breaststroke (1:08.20).

Holden, Gorki, Ali Polhill and B. Weston joined forces to set two team records in the 11-12 girls age group: the 200 medley relay (1:58.66 - NAG Top 16) and the 400 medley relay (4:24.25).
The 13-14 girls won all four relays in their age group. Niessl, Tracey, A. Potter and Guyett won the 200 free (1:42.75 - team record); A. Potter, B. Potter, Niessl and Guyett won the 400 free (3:47.16); Tracey, A. Potter, Niessl and Guyett won the 200 medley (1:54.71); Tracey, A. Potter, B. Potter and Guyett won and set a new team record in the 400 medley (4:06.96).
Carr, Karle, Rappaport and Taegan Clarke joined forces to win the 10-under boys 200 medley relay (2:13.13 - NAG Top 16)).

Marlins Make Waves At Silvers
 
Twenty-two swimmers of the Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins qualified to swim in additional JO's events at the Silver Championships North. The three-day meet, hosted by Aqua Gems Swim Team, was held recently at SUNY Orange in Middletown, New York.
The Metropolitan Junior Olympics will be held at Lehman College in the Bronx February 19-22, 2004.
The qualifiers in the 10-under age group were: Aaron Blacker (50 yd Freestyle), Christy Green (100 breaststroke), Will Rappaport (500 free), Briggs Sgaglio (50 and 100 butterfly), Danielle Sims (200 free), and Caroline Weston (50 fly and 100 backstroke).
Qualifying in the 11-12 age group were: John Carr (50 back), Greg Charriez (100 back and 200 free), Nick Charriez (200 & 500 free, 200 fly), Melissa Fanelli (50 breaststroke), Alexa Green (200 fly), Kim Holden (200 fly), Ali Polhill (50 breaststroke, 100 back, 100 individual medley, 200 free, and 200 fly), Christina Quaranta (200 free), Micah Sims (50 back), Haruka Tanaka (100 back), Betsy Weston (50 breaststroke), and Joe Zanellato (50 & 100 back).

Marlins Swim At Winter Qualifier
 
The Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs Of Northern Westchester Marlins Swim Team participated in the Middies Winter Qualifier Swim Meet. The two-day event was held recently at the White Plains YWCA.
Maddy Berkman, of Briarcliff Manor earned six first places in the 10-under girls age group: 50 yd freestyle (29.67), 50 (33.21) and 100 backstroke (1:11.63), 50 (31.99) and 100 butterfly (1:13.63), and 100 individual medley (1:13.43). She placed second in the 100 breaststroke and 100 free.
Matthew Karle, of Mount Kisco, won five events in the 10-under boys division. Matthew won the 50 (36.35) and 100 breaststroke (1:21.15), the 50 (33.53) and 100 fly (1:14.58), and the 100 IM (1:13.40). He placed second in the 50 back.
Chappaqua's Alexandra Gorki was a triple winner. She placed first in the 11-12 girls 50 (33.40) and 100 breaststroke (1:12.53), and in the 100 IM (1:07.35). Alex finished second in the 100 free, and third in the 50 and 100 fly.
Caroline Weston, of Katonah, was a double winner in the 10-under girls division. She placed first in the 50 (39.06) and 100 breaststroke (1:23.36).
Kim Holden, a resident of Mount Kisco, won the 11-12 girls 50 (30.09) and 100 back (1:05.17). Kim placed second in the 50 fly and third in the 100 IM.
Taylor Scilufo, of Briarcliff Manor, won the 10-under girls 100 free (1:04.99). Taylor took second in the 50 free and 100 IM, and third in the 50 & 100 breaststroke, and 50 back.
Betsy Weston, of Katonah, finished first in the 11-12 girls 100 free (1:00.06).
Many Marlins finished in the Top-Three in their respective age groups: Lowell Byers, Charlie Carr. Nick Charriez, Braden Clarke, Melissa Fanelli, Matthew Hadley, Marissa Horner, Dylan Morris, Ali Polhill, Justin Potter, Will Rappaport, Danielle Sims, Melissa Trail, and Joe Zanellato.

Marlins Dominate At Pentathlon

The Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs Of Northern Westchester Marlins Swim Team traveled to new Haven, Conn., to participate in the Westport/Weston Water Rats 2004 Pentathlon. The two-day meet was held earlier this month at the Southern Connecticut State University Natatorium.
A Pentathlon Meet is a Timed Final Meet in which each athlete swims five events in their age group - Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly, and Individual Medley. Individual Ranking is then based on the total of those five swims -- that is, each swimmer's five times are added together and then the swimmer is ranked accordingly with his/her age group.
The Marlins 9-10 girls placed five swimmers in the Top 12 finishers, all of which received a trophy.
Maddy Berkman of Briarcliff Manor swam all five events in a cumulative time of 3:26.16, which made her the first place winner. Maddy won the 50 yd back, 50 breaststroke and 100 IM.
Briarcliff Manor's Taylor Scilufo finished third (3:34.88). Nine-year-old Danielle Sims of Armonk placed fifth (3:44.59). Melissa Trail of Pound Ridge had the eighth fastest (3:47.20) and Caroline Weston of Katonah finished tenth (3:52.33).
The Marlins 9-10 boys placed six swimmers in the Top 12 finishers.
Matthew Karle of Mount Kisco was the winner with a total time of 3:29.82. He won the 50 fly, 50 breaststroke, 50 free and 100 IM.
Will Rappaport of Pound Ridge was second overall (3:39.01). Will won the 50 back. Justin Potter of New Fairfield, CT, finished fourth (3:44.69). Chappaqua's Taegan Clarke placed fifth overall (3:53.28). Benjamin Gebauer of Yorktown was tenth (4:10.27) and Jared Krosser of Chappaqua earned the 12th place trophy (4:15.48).
Four Marlins were among the Top 12 in the 11-12 girls age group.
Kim Holden of Mount Kisco placed fourth (3:17.63). Kim won the 50 back.
Betsy Weston of Katonah was eighth (3:22.03). Melissa Fanelli of Pleasantville finished 11th overall (3:24.38) while Haruka Tanaka also of Pleasantville placed 12th (3:25.47).
Four Marlins were among the Top 12 in the 11-12 boys age group.
Nick Charriez of Mohegan Lake took fourth (3:19.17). He won the 50 back. Braden Clarke of Chappaqua was fifth (3:22.33). Matthew Hadley, also of Chappaqua, was fifth (3:22.95). Armonk's Joe Zanellato placed eighth (3:27.23).
Five Marlins received trophies in the 13-14 girls age group.
Caren Guyett of Yorktown took top honors with a cumulative time of 6:27.50. She won the 100 back, 100 free and 200 IM.
Alyssa Potter of New Fairfield, CT, ranked sixth overall (6:46.01) while her twin sister Brittany Potter finished seventh (6:49.84). Kim Tracey of Sleepy Hollow took the eighth place overall (6:52.37). Steffi Niessl of Brewster finished in 10th place (6:55.07).
Eight Marlins were in the Top 12 in the 13-14 boys age group.
Tristan Hastings of Somers was first (6:04.58). He won the 100 back, 100 free and 200 IM.
Three Pound Ridge residents followed. Daniel Simco won the 100 fly and took second overall (6:11.47). Adam Powell placed third (6:17.38). Anthony Simco was fourth (6:19.73) and won the 100 breaststroke. Drew Polhill of Brewster took the eighth place (6:36.28); Chappaqua's Kazu Asaga finished 9th (6:37.31); Dylan Morris, also from Chappaqua, placed 10th (6:46.47) and Evan Palumbo of Yorktown took 12th overall (6:59.46).
Sarah Guyett of Yorktown was the only Marlin in the Top 12 in the 15-over girls age group. Sarah placed fifth with a cumulative time of 6:36.46.
Five Marlins were among the Top 12 in the 15-over boys age group.
Brad Thornton of Hastings-On-Hudson was first with a cumulative time of 5:44.84. Simon Hammer of Bedford Hills finished in fourth place (5:58.22). Bradley Mitchell of Somers won the 100 breaststroke and placed fifth overall (5:58.57). David Ballinger of Pleasantville took seventh (6:08.13) and Andrew Palumbo of Yorktown finished in 10th place (6:14.95).

Marlins Win Holiday Classic XVII

Led by its 13-14 and 10-under swimmers, the Mt. Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins Swim Team won the Holiday Classic XVII for the first time. One hundred Marlins traveled to New Jersey to compete in the three-day Invitational that was hosted by Eastern Express and held at the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center of Rutgers University Bush Campus in Piscataway. All told, 1,535 swimmers from 51 teams from Connecticut, Metropolitan, New Jersey, and Middle Atlantic participated in this year's championships.
The Marlins finished first with 2,822 points. The White Plains YWCA Middies finished in second place with 2,586 points and the Montclair YMCA of New Jersey placed third with 1,748 points.
The Marlins in the 13-14 age group combined for 968.50 points. They set one Metropolitan Swimming Record, fifteen team records, qualified for National Age Group Top 16 Consideration in fifteen events, for the Speedo Champions series in fifteen events, and for NCSA Junior Nationals in four events.
While winning only one event, the depth of her talent gave Caren Guyett, of Yorktown the lead in the 13-14 girls age group. Caren qualified for NAG Top 16, for the NCSA Junior Nationals & Speedo Series, and set team records in four freestyle events: the 200 yd freestyle (1:53.64), 500 free (4:58.46), 1000 free (10:14.35) and 1650 free (17:09.37). She set team records and qualified for the Speedo Series in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.74), 200 breaststroke which she won (2:26.90), 200 individual medley (2:09.56) and 400 IM (4:33.76). She also qualified for the Speedo Series in the 100 free (53.81).
Alyssa Potter, of New Fairfield, CT, finished third and set team records in the 13-14 girls 100 butterfly (1:00.19) and 200 fly (2:13.03). She placed third in the 200 breaststroke, fifth in the 400 IM and eighth in the 200 IM.
Her twin sister Brittany finished fourth in the 100 & 200 fly and 400 IM, and seventh in the 200 IM.
B. Potter, A. Potter, Steffi Niessl, of Brewster, and C. Guyett joined forces to win the 13-14 girls 200 medley relay with a team record and NAG Top 16 consideration time of 1:53.97. The same foursome set a team record and finished third in the 400 free relay (3:43.94 - Speedo Series). Kim Tracey, of Sleepy Hollow, A. Potter, B. Potter and C. Guyett qualified for the Speedo Series in the 400 medley relay (4:10.66) in which they finished in second place.
Tristan Hastings, of Somers, led the 13-14 boys with five NAG Top 16 and four Speedo Series qualifications, four-first places and one team record. Tristan won the 200 free (1:46.55 - Top 16), the 100 backstroke (53.72 - Top 16 - Speedo Series), 200 back (1:55.52 - Team record - Top 16 - Speedo Series) and the 200 IM (1:59.23 - Top 16 - Speedo Series). Hastings placed second in the 400 IM (4:12.59 - Top 16 - Speedo Series), 50 free and 100 free, third in the 200 breaststroke, and fourth in the 100 breaststroke.
Daniel Simco, of Pound Ridge, qualified for the Speedo Series in the 100 back with a relay leadoff time of 54.51. He took second in the 13-14 boys 100 and 200 back, sixth in the 100 fly and seventh in the 100 breaststroke.
Adam Powell, of Pound Ridge, placed third in the 13-14 boys 50 free, fourth in the 100 back, seventh in the 200 back, and eighth in the 100 & 200 free and 100 breaststroke.
Anthony Simco, of Pound Ridge, finished fifth in the 13-14 boys 100 breaststroke and seventh in the 200 breaststroke.
Hastings, A. Simco, D. Simco and Powell won and set a Metropolitan Swimming and team record in the 13-14 boys 200 medley relay (1:42.42 - Top 16). The same four swimmers qualified for NAG Top 16 and set team records in the 200 free relay (1:33.71) and 400 free relay (3:24.47). They also placed second in the 400 medley relay (3:49.35 - NAG Top 16).
The Marlins 10-under combined forces to score 794.50 points.
Maddy Berkman, of Briarcliff Manor, led the way with two-first places, in the 50 fly (31.05) and 100 fly (1:11.64). She placed second in the 200 free and 50 breaststroke, third in the 500 free, 50 back, 100 back, and 200 IM, and fifth in the 100 IM.
Taylor Scilufo, of Briarcliff Manor, finished third in the 10-under girls 200 free, sixth in the 100 free and 200 IM, and seventh in the 500 free.
Nine-year-old Danielle Sims, of Armonk, placed fifth in the 100 back and 100 fly, and sixth in the 50 fly.
Caroline Weston, of Katonah, finished fifth in the 50 breaststroke and seventh in the 100 breaststroke.
Melissa Trail, of Pound Ridge, placed fourth in the 10-under girls 200 free.
Berkman, C. Weston, Sims and Scilufo joined forces to win the 10-under girls 200 medley relay (2:14.75). Scilufo, Trail, Hannah Marks of Chappaqua, and Berkman took second in the 200 free relay.
Matthew Karle, of Mount Kisco, placed second in the 10-under boys 50 and 100 breaststroke, sixth in the 200 IM, and seventh in the 100 IM.
Will Rappaport, 9, of Pound Ridge, placed fifth in the 10-under boys 100 fly while Charlie Carr, 9, of Brewster, placed eighth in the 50 fly.
The team of C. Carr, Karle, Rappaport, and Taegan Clarke of Chappaqua, won the 10-under boys 200 medley relay (2:17.80) and placed second in the 200 free relay.
Marlins in the men and women divisions scored 602.50 points.
Qualifying for NCSA Junior Nationals in three events, Bradley Mitchell of Somers led the way in the men's division. Mitchell won the 200 breaststroke (2:06.61 - Juniors - Speedo Series - Top 16) and the 200 IM (1:55.24 - Juniors - Speedo Series). He took second in the 100 breaststroke (57.94 - Juniors - Speedo Series - Top 16), fourth in the 400 IM (4:11.34 - Speedo Series), and eighth in the 50 free (21.82 - Speedo Series). He also qualified for the Speedo Series in the 100 free (48.73).
Brad Thornton, of Hastings-On-Hudson, qualified for Juniors in the 50 free (21.56) and for the Speedo Series in the 50 free, 100 free (48.41), 200 free (1:44.81), 100 breaststroke (1:00.55), 100 fly (52.58_, 200 IM [1:57.09) and 400 IM (4:12.12).
Simon Hammer, of Bedford Hills, qualified for Juniors and Speedo Series in the 200 breaststroke (2:09.49) and for the Speedo Series in the 50 free (22.24) and 100 breaststroke (59.69).
Lowell Byers, of Chappaqua, qualified for Juniors and Speedo Series in the 50 free (21.59) and for the Speedo Series in the 100 free (48.08) and 100 back (54.44).
The team of Mitchell, Thornton, Hammer and Byers qualified for Juniors and Speedo Series in the 400 free relay (3:11.92). The same foursome set team records in the 200 free relay (1:27.15) and the 200 medley relay (1:37.95). Hastings, Mitchell, Thornton and Byers set a team record and qualified for Juniors and Speedo Series in the 400 medley relay (3:33.48). Mitchell, Hastings, David Ballinger of Pleasantville, and Thornton qualified for the Speedo Series in the 800 free relay (7:11.27).
Swimming in the women division, Sarah Guyett, of Yorktown, qualified for Juniors and Speedo Series in the 100 back (58.86) in which she finished second. She qualified for the Speedo Series in the 200 back (2:08.27) and the 200 IM (2:10.78).
Christine Tartaglia, of Brewster, who qualified for Juniors and Speedo Series in the 100 breaststroke at the NY State championships (1:06.35 - team record)) also qualified for the Speedo Series and set a team record in the 200 breaststroke (2:26.57).
Meredith Bannon, of Putnam Valley, qualified for the Speedo Series in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.26).
S. Guyett, Tartaglia, A. Potter and C. Guyett set a team record and qualified for Juniors and Speedo Series in the 400 medley relay (3:58.61).
S. Guyett, Bannon, Tara Flaherty of Hastings-On-Hudson, and Tartaglia set a team record in the 200 medley relay (1:53.27).
The 11-12 age group scored 456.50 points.
Eleven-year-old Kim Holden, of Mt. Kisco, won the 11-12 girls 50 back (29.50). She placed third in the 100 back, and fifth in the 200 back.
Alexandra Gorki, 11, of Chappaqua, finished second in the 11-12 girls 100 breaststroke, fourth in the 200 breaststroke, fifth in the 200 fly, and sixth in the 50 breaststroke.
Holden, Gorki, Melissa Fanelli of Pleasantville, and Betsy Weston of Katonah, teamed up to set a team record and take second in the 200 medley relay (2:00.12).
Braden Clarke, of Chappaqua, finished fifth in the 11-12 boys 50 free and back, and eighth in the 100 free and 200 back.
Matthew Hadley, of Chappaqua, placed fourth in the 200 breaststroke.
Joe Zanellato, of Armonk, finished sixth in the 100 breaststroke and eighth in the 50 breaststroke.
The team of Nick Charriez of Yorktown, Hadley, Zanellato and B. Clarke won the 11-12 boys 200 free relay (1:49.18) and placed second in the 200 medley relay.

Marlins Swim At Age Group Meet

The Mount Kisco Based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins hosted their Age Group Meet recently at the Trotta Millennium Pool. Eight teams participated in this one-day meet.
Five Marlins were quadruple winners and many new pool records were established.
Swimming in her last meet as a twelve-year-old, Kim Tracey of Sleepy Hollow won and set a pool record in the 11-12 girls 100 yd individual medley (1:05.58). Kim also won the 50 freestyle (26.78), the 50 backstroke (29.89) and the 50 butterfly (29.38). Kim set a pool record in the 50 back in a time trial of 29.67.
A day after competing at the New York State Girls High School Championships, Caren Guyett, a resident of Yorktown, won and set pool records in the 13-14 girls 100 free (55.46) and 100 breaststroke (1:10.68). Caren also won the 100 fly (1:01.35) and 200 IM (2:14.79).
Maddy Berkman, of Briarcliff Manor, won her four events: the 9-10 girls 50 back (33.88), 50 breaststroke (39.13), 50 fly (32.75) and 100 IM (1:14.58).
Mount Kisco's Matthew Karle led the 9-10 boys with first places in the 50 back (35.50), 50 breaststroke (36.95), 50 fly (33.89) and 100 IM (1:14.68).
Nick Charriez, of Mohegan Lake, was a quadruple winner in the 11-12 boys division. Nick placed first in the 50 back (30.51), 50 breaststroke (36.93), 50 fly (30.79) and 100 IM (1:09.71).
Aaron Blacker, of Mount Kisco, was a triple winner in the 8-under boys division. Aaron placed first in the 50 free (32.56 - pool record), 50 back (38.37) and 50 fly (35.86). He finished second in the 50 breaststroke.
Tristan Hastings, of Somers, won, set a pool record, and qualified for National Age Group Top 16 consideration in the 13-14 boys 100 back (54.97). Hastings won and set a pool record in the 200 IM (2:03.61) and won the 100 breaststroke (1:06.18). He placed second in the 100 fly.
Fifteen-year-old Tara Flaherty, of Hastings-On-Hudson, was a double winner in the women division. She took first the 100 free (56.27) and 100 breaststroke (1:13.53), placed second in the 100 back and third in the 100 fly.
Bradley Mitchell, a resident of Somers, and Brad Thornton, of Hastings-On-Hudson, each won and set pool records in two events in the men's division. Mitchell won the 100 breaststroke (1:00.80) & 200 IM (2:00.44), and took third in the 100 free. Thornton won and set pool records in the 100 free (49.21) and 100 fly (54.15), finishing second in the 100 breaststroke and 200 IM.
Lauren Perschetz, of Armonk, won the 8-under girls 50 breaststroke (49.69).
Meghan Brooks, of Somers, won the 9-10 girls 50 free (30.91), and placed third in the 50 fly and 100 IM.
Alexandra Gorki, of Chappaqua, won the 11-12 girls 50 breaststroke (34.71), and placed third in the 100 IM.
Steffi Niessl of Brewster won the 13-14 girls 100 back (1:05.38), placed second in the 100 fly, and third in the 100 free and 200 IM.
Sarah Guyett, of Yorktown, won the women 100 fly (1:02.01).
Chappaqua's Braden Clarke won the 11-12 boys 50 free (26.77), and placed second in the 50 back & 100 IM.
Adam Powell, of Pound Ridge, placed first in the 13-14 boys 100 free (51.77), and third in the 100 back and 100 fly.
Anthony Simco, also from Pound Ridge, won the 13-14 boys 100 fly (58.20), finished second in the 100 breaststroke and third in the 200 IM.
Lowell Byers of Chappaqua won the men open division 100 back and took second in the 100 free and 100 fly.

Marlins Go The Distance

The Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins Swim Team held its annual Distance Meet recently. Seven teams participated in the one-day event that was held at the Trotta Millennium Pool.
Kim Tracey, of Sleepy Hollow, won the 11-12 girls 500 yd freestyle (5:44.52); she also won and set a pool record in the 11-12 400 individual medley (5:01.85). Kim placed second in the mile (1650 free) in which she set a new team record (19:55.05).
Tristan Hastings, of Somers, won and set pool records in two events in the 13-14 boys division. Tristan placed first in the 400 IM (4:18.07 - pool record) and in the 1650 free (17:14.32 - pool record).
Caren Guyett, of Yorktown, won the 13-14 girls 400 IM (4:38.72 - pool record) and placed second in the 1650 free.
Maddy Berkman, of Briarcliff Manor, won the 10-under girls 500 free (6:35.28).
Matthew Karle, of Mount Kisco, won the 10-under boys 500 free (6:31.03).
Chappaqua's Braden Clarke finished first in the 11-12 boys 500 free (5:50.45) and second in the 400 IM.
Nick Charriez, of Mohegan Lake, won the gold in the 11-12 boys 400 IM (5:27.01). He placed third in the 500 free.
Eight-year-old Aaron Blacker, of Mount Kisco, set a team record in the 8-under 500 free (7:29.35).
Meghan Brooks, Taylor Scilufo, Alexandra Gorki, Ali Polhill, Haruka Tanaka, Alyssa Potter, Brittany Potter, Justin Potter, Matthew Hadley, Daniel Simco and Drew Polhill were Marlins that placed among the Top Three finishers at the meet.

Marlins 12 & Under Make Waves

The younger swimmers of the Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins participated in the Middies 12 & Under Sprint Meet that was held recently at the White Plains YWCA.
Maddy Berkman, of Briarcliff Manor, was a triple winner in the 10-under girls age group. Maddy won the 50 yd freestyle (29.86), the 50 breaststroke (38.56), and the 50 butterfly (32.49). She placed second in the 50 backstroke.
Kim Tracey, of Sleepy Hollow, was also a triple winner. Kim won the 11-12 girls 50 free (26.85), 50 back (29.94) and 100 individual medley (1:07.79). She placed third in the 50 breaststroke and fourth in the 50 fly.
Nine-year-old Will Rappaport, of Pound Ridge, was a double winner in the 10-under boys division. Will won the 50 breaststroke (42.47) and the 50 fly (34.47). He finished fourth in the 50 free and 50 back.
Alexandra Gorki, of Chappaqua, won the 11-12 girls 50 breaststroke (35.09). She took third in the 100 IM, and sixth in the 50 fly.
Nick Charriez, of Mohegan Lake, won the 11-12 boys 50 back (31.04). Nick finished second in the 50 fly and 100 IM, and fifth in the 50 free.
