Marlins make waves at championships in August
 
Swimming as members of the Metropolitan Swimming Team, eleven swimmers of Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins traveled to Buffalo in August to compete at the 2005 Eastern Zone Long Course All-Star Championships. The fastest age group swimmers, from Virginia to Maine, participated in this four-day competition that was held at Buffalo's Erie Community College and at the University of Buffalo.
The Metropolitan Team excelled at this year's competition and brought home three banners - Overall championship (1,662 points); Girls competition (907.50 points) and Boys competition (754.50 points). Virginia Swimming finished in second place (1,079 points) while Maryland Swimming placed third with 1,013.50 points.
Fourteen-year-old Steffi Niessl, of Brewster, swam personal best times in every event and won the 13-14 girls 100 meter butterfly (1:05.05L -- team record). She finished second in the 200 backstroke (2:28.45L -- team record), fourth in the 100 back, and eighth in the 50 freestyle. She also swam the 100 free and set a team record in the 50 fly (30.23L).
Tristan Hastings of Somers won the 15-18 boys 200 free (1:59.32L). The sixteen-year-old finished second in the 400 free, third in the 200 individual medley, fifth in the 100 free and 200 breaststroke, and sixth in the 400 IM. Tristan swam the leadoff leg of the 15-18 boys 200 free Metropolitan relay that won the event.
Kim Holden, a thirteen-year-old girl from Mount Kisco, swam personal best times in all her events, finishing third in the 13-14 girls 100 back. She also swam the 100 fly and the 200 back.
Racquel Giner, of Mount Kisco, set new team records in the 11-12 girls 100 breaststroke (1:23.84L) and 200 breaststroke (3:03.45L). She also swam the 50 breaststroke and achieved personal best times in all three events.
Kazu Asaga, of Chappaqua, set a team record in the 13-14 boys 50 fly (28.98L). Kazu swam the 100 and 200 free, 100 and 200 fly, and 100 & 200 back.
Ali Polhill, of Brewster, swam the 11-12 girls 50 breaststroke, 50 & 100 back, 50 fly and 50 free. Her older brother Drew Polhill, swam the 15-18 boys 200 IM.
Taylor Scilufo, of Briarcliff Manor, competed in the 11-12 girls 100 and 200 back.
Caroline Weston of Katonah participated in the 11-12 girls 50 and 100 breaststroke.
Aaron Blacker of Mount Kisco swam the 10-under boys 50 breaststroke, 50 back and 50 fly.
Nick Charriez of Mohegan Lake set a personal best time in the 13-14 boys 100 back.
During the same week, Caren Guyett of Yorktown and Bradley Mitchell of Somers traveled to California to compete at the 2005 USA Swimming Junior Championships. The six-day meet was held at William Woollett, Jr. Aquatic Center in Irvine.
Caren swam the 100, 800 and 1500 meter freestyle and the 200 IM.
Brad competed in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, 50 free, and 200 IM.

Records Fall At Junior Olympics

During the last weekend of July, the Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins competed at the 2005 Metropolitan Long Course Junior Olympics. The three-day meet was held at the Lehman College APEX Aquatic Center in the Bronx.

Meredith Bannon of Katonah placed first in the 15-18 girls 100 meter breaststroke (1:18.33L).
Bradley Mitchell of Somers won the 15-18 boys 200 breaststroke (2:39.44L).
Many Marlins were among the top eight finishers: Kazu Asaga, Aaron Blacker, Racquel Giner, Caren Guyett, Tristan Hastings, Ali Polhill, Drew Polhill, Taylor Scilufo, Danielle Sims and Caroline Weston.
Genna McLaughlin of Yorktown set new team records in the 8-under girls 50 meter breaststroke (50.68L) and 200 IM (3:30.06L).
Danielle Sims, of Armonk, set a team record in the 11-12 girls 200 meter fly (2:52.39L). Caroline Weston of Katonah set the record in the 11-12 girls 50 breaststroke (37.75L) and Racquel Giner of Mount Kisco set the record in the 11-12 girls 200 breaststroke (3:04.25L).
Scilufo, Giner, Meghan Brooks and Ali Polhill teamed up for a second place finish in the 11-12 girls 400 free relay with a team record time of 4:38.92L. Polhill, Giner, Sims and Scilufo set records in the 400 medley relay (5:18.54L) and  in the 200 free relay (2:08.14L). They finished third in both events.
The team of Tristan Hastings, Drew Polhill, Jared Blacker and Brad Mitchell set a new record in the 15-18 boys 400 free relay (4:04.46L).
Bradley Mitchell and Caren Guyett will compete at the USA Swimming Speedo Junior Championships in Irvine, California, in August. At the same time, eleven Marlins will travel to Buffalo to participate in the Eastern Zone All-Star Championships: Aaron Blacker, Ali Polhill, Caroline Weston, Taylor Scilufo, Racquel Giner, Kim Holden, Steffi Niessl, Nick Charriez, Kazu Asaga, Drew Polhill, and Tristan Hastings.

Holden and Niessl Take Silver at ESG

Kim Holden of Mount Kisco and Steffi Niessl of Brewster traveled to New Paltz to compete in the 2005 Summer Empire State Games as members of the Hudson Valley Team.
Niessl earned a silver medal in the scholastic division 100 meter butterfly. She set a 13-14 girls Marlins team record in the event with 1:06.58L. Steffi also finished sixth in the 50 free.

Holden was awarded a silver medal for a second place finish in the scholastic division 100 backstroke (1:10.15L).
Both Holden and Niessl were members of the Hudson Valley team that won a silver medal in the scholastic 400 medley relay.

Marlins Swim at July Jubilee

Twenty-Nine Marlins traveled to Rockland County to participate in the Condors July Jubilee. The one-day meet was held in the 50 meter pool at the Felix Festa Middle School in Clarkstown.

Elizabeth Barry, of Chappaqua, won four events in the 10-under girls division: the 50 meter free (35.83L), 100 fly (1:31.73L), 50 back (42.41L) and 200 IM (3:14.64L).
Kazu Asaga of Chappaqua was a quadruple winner in the 13-14 boys division. Kazu won the 100 back (1:06.76L), 50 free (27.32L), 100 fly (1:04.14L), and 200 IM (2:31.29L).
Aaron Blacker of Mount Kisco won three events in the 10-under boys division: the 50 free (34.22L), 50 breaststroke (45.12L) and 50 back (38.15L).
Ali Polhill of Brewster was a triple winner in the girls 11-12 division. She won the 50 free (30.34L), 50 fly (33.33L), and 100 back (1:16.98L). Ali placed second in the 100 breaststroke.
Steffi Niessl of Brewster won three events in the 13-14 girls division. She placed first in the 50 free (29.15L), 100 fly (1:10.27L) and 200 IM (2:38.75L) and second in the 100 back.
Racquel Giner of Mount Kisco won the 11-12 girls 100 breaststroke (1:26.95L). She placed third in the 50 free and fifth in the 100 back.
Kim Holden of Mount Kisco won the 13-14 girls 100 back (1:11.40L) and placed second in the 100 fly and 200 IM, and fourth in the 50 free.
James McLaughlin of Yorktown finished first in the 10-under boys 200 IM (3:14.44L), and second in the 50 breaststroke, 50 free and 50 back.
Taylor Scilufo of Briarcliff Manor won the 11-12 girls 200 IM (2:49.66L) and placed second in the 50 free, 50 fly and 100 back.
Swimming in the 10-under girls division, Genna McLaughlin of Yorktown set long course team records in the 8-under girls 50 freestyle (36.71L) and 50 breaststroke (51.43L). She finished second in both events!

Marlins swim at Long Course Senior Mets

Eleven members of the Marlins Senior Team competed at the 2005 Senior Metropolitan Long Course Swimming Championships. The four-day meet was held at the Nassau County Aquatic Center at Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, Long Island.

Steffi Niessl of Brewster set a new team record in the 13-14 girls 200 meter backstroke. Steffi finished in sixth place in the event with a time of 2:31.56L. She also scored points in the 100 freestyle and 200 butterfly.
Bradley Mitchell of Somers finished third in the men 200 breaststroke and scored points in the 50 free and 200 individual medley.
Tristan Hastings of Somers placed fifth in the men 200 breaststroke and fourteenth in the 400 free.
Mary Kate Baumann of Armonk set a team record in the women 200 fly (2:36.47L).
Kazu Asaga, Caren Guyett, Kim Holden, Ali Polhill, Drew Polhill, Taylor Scilufo and Micah Sims also participated

Marlins swim in Rockland County

Twenty-Two
Marlins traveled to Clarkstown in Rockland County to compete at the inaugural meet at the Felix V. Festa Middle School new 50 meter pool. The Condors swim Club hosted the meet at the new facility.
Teammates Aaron Blacker of Mount Kisco, James McLaughlin of Yorktown, Sam Johnson of Katonah, and Stephen Shine of Briarcliff Manor joined forces to win and set a new team record in the 200 meter freestyle relay (2:33.34L).
Kim Holden, of Mount Kisco, was a triple winner in the 13-14 girls division. Kim won the 100 butterfly (1:14.19L), 200 backstroke (2:41.60L), and 200 Individual Medley (2:43.35L).
Elizabeth Barry of Chappaqua won the 10-under girls 50 back (41.38L). She placed third in the 100 free and 100 fly, and fourth in the 200 IM.
Stephen Shine won the 10-under boys 100 fly (1:42.78L) and placed fifth in the 200 IM.
Caroline Weston of Katonah won the 11-12 girls 50 breaststroke (39.94L). Her older sister Betsy Weston placed first in the 13-14 girls 100 free (1:07.12L), second in the 100 fly, and fourth in the 200 free).
The Marlins will miss Haruka Tanaka who swam unattached in her last meet before moving to California. She finished second in the 13-14 200 breaststroke and 200 IM, third in the 200 back, and fourth in the 100 free.
Aaron Blacker, Sara Blacker, Katie Duncalf, Jessica Frank, James McLaughlin, and Micah Sims also placed among the top six finalists. The relay of E. Barry, Duncalf, Eileen Huang and Mary Kate McGetrick finished in second place. The relay of teammates Olivia Olinger, Kristina Barry, Lindsey Brosnan and Genna McLaughlin placed fourth.

Marlins Qualify for Empire State Games
 
Eight Marlins participated in the Hudson Valley team selection for the 2005 Empire State Games. The trials were held for two consecutive days at the Marist College Natatorium in Poughkeepsie, New York.
Steffi Niessl, of Brewster, placed first in two events in the scholastic division:  the 100 yd butterfly and the 50 freestyle. Kim Holden, of Mount Kisco, won the scholastic division 100 backstroke.
Both Steffi and Kim will swim those events at the Empire State Games in New Paltz at the end of July.
Mark Cereste, Greg Charriez, Nick Charriez, Michelle Lian, Drew Polhill and Kim Tracey also participated in the trials.

Marlins Set Records At Summertime Classic
 
The Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins Swim Team participated in a few meets during the month of June.
Fifty-two Marlins traveled to Long Island to compete at the LIAC Summertime Classic Long Course Invitational. More than 1,500 swimmers participated in the two-day meet that was held at the Nassau County Aquatic center at Eisenhower Park.
Steffi Niessl, a fourteen-year-old from Brewster, won and set a team record in the 13-14 girls 100 meter butterfly (1:08.26L). She placed second in the 50 freestyle and fourth in the 100 backstroke.
Ten-year-old Will Rappaport, of Pound Ridge, set two team records: the 9-10 boys 100 back (1:22.76L) and the 200 free (2:33.92L). Will placed second in both events. He also finished third in the 50 free.
Many Marlins placed among the top 6 finishers:
In the 10-under age group: Elizabeth Barry of Chappaqua (fifth in the 100 fly); Jared Krosser of Chappaqua (third in the 100 breaststroke, fourth in the 100 fly, fifth in the 100 back, and sixth in the 200 individual medley); Aaron Blacker of Mount Kisco (third in 50 breaststroke, fifth in 50 fly and sixth in the 100 fly); Sam Johnson of Katonah (sixth in the 100 breaststroke); Stephen Shine of Briarcliff Manor (fifth in the 100 fly and sixth in the 200 free); and James McLaughlin of Yorktown (sixth in the 100 back).
Maddy Berkman, of Briarcliff Manor, finished third in the 11-12 girls 100 fly and in the 100 breaststroke, and fifth in the 50 fly.
Kim Tracey of Sleepy Hollow took second place in the 13-14 girls 200 IM. Mount Kisco's Kim Holden finished third in the 13-14 girls 100 back.
Drew Polhill of Brewster placed third in the 13-14 boys 100 breaststroke and fourth in the 100 fly. Mark Cereste of Armonk finished sixth in the 200 breaststroke.
Caren Guyett of Yorktown placed fourth in the women 100 fly and 400 IM. Meredith Bannon of Katonah finished fifth in the women 100 breaststroke.
Bradley Mitchell of Somers took fourth place in the men 200 breaststroke and Tristan Hastings, also of Somers, placed fifth in the men 50 free.

Marlins Compete in Spring Kickoff Invitational
 
Sixty-nine swimmers from the Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins Swim Team competed at the Long Course Spring Kickoff Invitational. Twenty-one teams attended the two-day meet, which was hosted by the Long Island Aquatic Club, and held recently at the Nassau County Aquatic Center at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, Long Island.
Competitive swimming is a year round sport with a short course season in which meets are held in 25 yard pools from September to April, and a long course season going from May to August in which meets are held in 50 meter pools. It was the first time that many young Marlins swam in a long course meet.
Will Rappaport, of Pound Ridge, was a double winner in the boys 10-under age group. Will won the 50 meter breaststroke (42.80L) and the 100 breaststroke (1:36.12L). He set a new team record with a third place finish in the 50 backstroke (36.38L). Will also finished third in the 100 freestyle and 50 butterfly.
Caren Guyett, of Yorktown, won the women Open 200 individual medley (2:29.11L), finished fourth in the 200 breaststroke and eighth in the 200 free.
Benjamin Gebauer, of Yorktown, set a team record in the 11-12 boys 200 breaststroke (3:30.13L).
Many Marlins placed among the Top 8 finalists. In the 10-under girls division: Elizabeth Barry (100 free, 100 back, and 50 fly) and Katie Duncalf (50 back, 100 back, and 100 fly).
In the 11-12 girls age group: Maddy Berkman (50 & 200 back, 50 breaststroke, 100 fly and 200 IM); Taylor Scilufo (200 & 400 free, 200 back, 100 fly and 200 IM); Ali Polhill (50 free and 50 back); Nadie Reilly (200 breaststroke) and Sara Blacker (200 breaststroke).
Steffi Niessl placed in the Women Open Division 100 fly.
In the 10-under boys division: Jared Krosser (100 free, 50 & 100 back, 50 breaststroke, and 50 fly); Aaron Blacker (50 free, 50 back, 50 breaststroke, and 50 fly); Josh Tesser (50 free and 100 back); and Randy Ashe (100 breaststroke).
In the men Open division: Tristan Hastings (100 free and 100 & 200 breaststroke); Bradley Mitchell (100 breaststroke); and Drew Polhill (200 breaststroke).

Bradley Mitchell and Caren Guyett Compete At World Championships Trials   
 
After competing in the 2005 Speedo Boys & Girls Clubs Nationals in Florida, Bradley Mitchell and Caren Guyett traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana, to compete in the 2005 World Championships Trials (Senior Nationals). The seven-day competition was held at the IUPUI Natatorium of  Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis in early April.
Mitchell, of Somers, was the first swimmer of the Mount Kisco-based Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins to compete in the men division. He had qualified in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events at the NCSA Junior Nationals. Mitchell, who will attend the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill in the fall, swam the 200 meter breaststroke (2:32.53L).
Guyett, a fifteen-year-old resident of Yorktown, was the second Marlin to qualify in the women division. Rebecca Grove, also of Yorktown, had qualified in 1999-2002. Guyett who qualified in the 1650 freestyle at the 2005 NCSA Junior Nationals, swam the 1500 meter free (18:02.99L).

Marlins Compete At Metro Age Group Championships
 
While part of the team was in competing in Florida, other members of the Mount Kisco-based Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins participated in the 2005 Metropolitan Age Group Championships North. The three-day meet that was held at Washingtonville High School was hosted by the Aqua Gems Swim Team.
Braden Clarke of Chappaqua won the 13-14 boys 400 yd individual medley with a personal best and Zone Qualifying time of 4:50.12.
Marlins finishing first in the Junior Olympics Division were: Racquel Giner of Mount Kisco (11-12 girls 100 free); Risten Clarke of Chappaqua (9-10 boys 100 back); Braden Clarke (13-14 boys 100 fly). 
Marlins placing first in the Silver Division were: Olivia Lindenberg of Mount Kisco (9-10 girls 50 breaststroke and 100 fly); Taegan Clarke of Chappaqua (11-12 boys 50 and 100 free); Ian Schneider of Armonk (11-12 boys 100 individual medley); Matthew Hadley of Chappaqua (13-14 boys 200 & 500 free, 100 breaststroke and 100 fly); Braden Clarke (13-14 boys 200 breaststroke and 200 IM); Josh Saccurato of Chappaqua (13-14 boys 400 IM); and Paul Procops of Bedford (15-18 boys 200 breaststroke).
Marlins placing first in the Age Group Division were: Wendy Woeckener of Pleasantville (9-10 girls 100 yd butterfly); Briggs Sgaglio of Pound Ridge (11-12 girls 500 freestyle); Jennifer DiChiara of Mount Kisco (11-12 girls 50 breaststroke); Melissa Whelan of Yorktown (11-12 girls 100 fly); Kerri Whelan of Yorktown (13-14 girls 100 backstroke); Kaitlin Summers of Bedford (13-14 girls 100 breaststroke); Alison Whelan of Yorktown (15-18 girls 100 free); Josh Hymowitz of Rye Brook (9-10 boys 100 free); and Josh Saccurato (13-14 boys 200 IM).

Marlins Win 2005 Speedo BG Clubs Nationals
 
The Mount Kisco-based Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins won their sixth consecutive national title at the 2005 Speedo Boys & Girls Clubs National Short Course Swimming Championships.
The three-day meet was held earlier this month, on a cool and windy weekend, at the North Shore Pool in St. Petersburg, Florida. The Tampa-based Carrollwood Village Swim Team hosted the 20th annual trials and finals event.
The Marlins dominated the field and won the meet with a cumulative score of 9,709 points. The Delaware Boys & Girls Club finished in second place (3,103 points). Carrollwood Village Swim Team took third (2,970.50 points) and the Clifton Boys & Girls Clubs Seahawks finished fourth with 2,603.50 points.
Caren Guyett of Yorktown won the High Point Award in the Women Open Division by scoring the maximum of 160 points. Caren won the gold in all her events: the 400 yd individual medley (4:33.89), 500 freestyle (5:06.13), 200 free (1:55.70), 200 backstroke (2:09.00), 200 butterfly (2:13.02), 100 back (59.87), 200 IM (2:12.59), and 100 free (53.84). Guyett, Meredith Bannon, Michelle Lian and Tara Flaherty teamed up to win the women 200 free relay (1:43.58). Guyett, Bannon, Flaherty and Laura Willhoft won the 200 medley relay (1:57.57).
Drew Polhill of Brewster scored 156 points to win the High Point in the 13-14 boys division. Drew won seven events in his age group: the 400 IM (4:29.47), 100 breaststroke (1:06.10), 200 back (2:11.47), 200 fly (2:11.58), 200 breaststroke (2:20.08), 100 back (59.36), and 200 IM (2:09.11). D. Polhill, Evan Palumbo, Mark Cereste and James Karle won the 13-14 boys 200 free relay (1:38.31) and 200 medley relay (1:49.68).
Swimming in his last BGC Nationals, Bradley Mitchell of Somers received the Men Open Division High Point Award. Brad scored 153 points and won six individual events: the 400 IM (4:11.74), 100 breaststroke (59.97), 50 free (22.03), 200 breaststroke (2:07.43 - meet record), 200 IM (1:57.53), and 100 free (48.30). David Ballinger, Simon Hammer, Andrew Palumbo and Mitchell joined forces to win the men 200 free relay (1:30.55). 
James Karle of Mount Kisco scored 152 points for the Marlins and received the second place High Point Award in the 13-14 boys division. James dominated the freestyle category and won six events: the 500 free (5:05.24), 200 free (1:53.46), 50 free (24.19), 1650 free (18:04.49), 100 free (51.92) and 100 fly (58.24). 
Matthew Karle of Mount Kisco won the High Point in the 11-12 boys Division. The eleven-year-old scored 148 points and won four events: the 200 IM (2:23.56), 200 free (2:12.24), 50 breaststroke (34.50), and 100 breaststroke (1:13.10). 
Scoring 148 points each, Ian Cooper of Chappaqua and Brandon Conceicao of the BGC of Greater Nashua tied to win the 8-under boys High Point. Ian won the 50 fly (40.81), 50 breaststroke (48.12), 25 back (19.13), and 25 fly (18.03). Michael Lyons, Daniel DiGiacomo, Marshall Widom and Cooper joined forces to win the 8-under boys 100 free relay (1:13.33). Lyons, Bobby Potenza, Cooper and DiGiacomo won the 100 medley relay (1:28.20).
Tristan Hastings, of Somers, scored 145 points which was good enough for a second place High Point Award in the men's division. Tristan won three events: the 500 free (4:46.48), 200 free (1:45.40) and 1650 free (16:43.20). In one of the most exciting race of the meet, the team of Daniel Simco, Hastings, Anthony Simco and Adam Powell (1:40.20) beat the team of Ballinger, Mitchell, A. Palumbo and Hammer (1:40.40).
Nine-year-old Elizabeth Barry of Chappaqua was the high Point winner in the 9-10 girls division with a score of 144 points. Elizabeth won four events: the 200 IM (2:44.33), 500 free (6:31.16), 200 free (2:29.40) and 100 back (1:15.97). Colleen Powers, Olivia Olinger, Eileen Huang and E. Barry won the 9-10 girls 200 free relay (2:15.04). 
Scoring 141 points, Sean Lyons of Yorktown won the second place High Point Award in the 9-10 boys division. Sean won four events for the Marlins: the 500 free (6:46.26), 200 free (2:34.27), 100 fly (1:20.80), and 100 free (1:10.66). Josh Tesser, Marco Dominguez, Jared Krosser and James McLaughlin won the 9-10 boys 200 free relay (2:11.02). Krosser, Dominguez, S. Lyons, and Aaron Blacker won the 200 medley relay (2:23.86).
Ali Polhill of Brewster won the High Point Award in the 11-12 girls division. Ali scored 141 points and won three events: the 200 IM (2:22.71), 100 fly (1:05.19) and 50 fly (29.09). Micah Sims, Maddy Berkman, Sammie Cooper and A. Polhill won the 11-12 girls 200 free relay (1:50.23). M. Sims, Sabine Holmes, Berkman and A. Polhill won the 200 medley relay (2:02.24).
Genna McLaughlin of Mount Kisco swam personal best times in all her events and won the High Point Award in the 8-under girls division. Genna scored 138 points and won three events: the 100 free (1:22.42), 50 free (36.51), and 25 breaststroke (22.21). Kristina Barry, Kayla Brooks, G. McLaughlin, and Erica Silverman won the 8-under girls 100 free relay (1:10.28). K. Barry, Heidi Gspurning, Amanda Rota and G. McLaughlin won the 100 medley relay (1:18.35).
Jared Krosser of Chappaqua scored 136 points and won the third place High Point Award in the 9-10 boys division. Jared won the 100 back (1:20.79) and the 50 back (36.06). 
Evan Palumbo of Yorktown also scored 136 points for the Marlins. Evan received the third place High Point Award in the 13-14 boys division. Evan finished second in the 200 & 400 IM, in the 100, 200, 500 & 1650 free, and in the 100 & 200 breaststroke.
Scoring 134 points, Alexandra Gorki of Chappaqua took home the second place High Point Award in the 13-14 girls division. The thirteen-year-old won the 100 breaststroke (1:11.57), 1650 free (19:36.70), and 200 breaststroke (2:33.35). Gorki, Kim Tracey, Haruka Tanaka, and Betsy Weston won the 13-14 girls 200 free relay (1:48.79). Kim Holden, Gorki, Tracey and B. Weston won the 200 medley relay (1:59.75).
Eleven-year-old Maddy Berkman of Briarcliff Manor scored 133 points and received the third place High Point Award in the 11-12 girls division. Maddy won the 100 IM (1:05.98). 
The 13-14 girls third place High Point Award went to Betsy Weston of Katonah. The thirteen-year-old scored 132 points and won the 100 free (57.14). 
Amanda Rota of Chappaqua took home the third place High Point Award in the 8-under girls division. Amanda scored 132 points and won three events: the 100 IM (1:33.34), the 50 fly (41.35) and the 25 fly (17.98).
Meredith Bannon of Katonah received the third place High Point Award in the women division. Meredith scored 130 points and won the 100 breaststroke (1:07.80) and the 200 breaststroke (2:27.98). 
David Ballinger of Pleasantville scored 127 points and won the third place High Point Award in the men division. David was second in the 1650 free, 100 back and 100 fly.   
Other Marlins won individual events in their respective age groups. In the 8-under girls division, Heidi Gspurning of Yorktown won the 50 breaststroke (48.65).
Aaron Blacker of Mount Kisco won the 9-10 boys 50 fly (31.32).
Sabine Holmes of Chappaqua was a double winner with first places in the 11-12 girls 50 breaststroke (33.79) and the 100 breaststroke (1:13.72).
In the 13-14 girls division, Kim Tracey of Sleepy Hollow won the 50 free (26.04), the 100 back (1:00.99) and the 200 IM (2:14.93). Kim Holden of Mount Kisco won the 200 back (2:16.08) and the 100 fly (1:01.88).
Tara Flaherty won the women open division 50 free (25.64). Daniel Simco of Pound Ridge placed first in the men open division 100 back (56.12) and 200 back (1:56.01).

Asaga Wins Event At Eastern Zones   
 
Kazu Asaga, a swimmer on the Mount Kisco-based Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins Swim Team, made waves at the 2005 Eastern Zone All-Star Short Course Championships. The three-day meet was held recently at the Gloucester County Institute of Technology in Sewell, New Jersey. Metropolitan Swimming won the meet with 1,038 points. Middle Atlantic finished in second place (1,022.50) followed by Virginia (991.50).
Asaga, a resident of Chappaqua, qualified for this prestigious meet as a member of the Metropolitan Swimming Team. He won and set a new Marlins record in the 13-14 boys 200 yd butterfly with a Speedo Champions Series Sectional time of 1:59.41. He finished second in the 100 fly, fifth in the 200 freestyle, seventh in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke and eighth in the 200 back. Asaga was also a member of the Metro 400 free and 400 medley relays.
Mary Kate Baumann of Armonk qualified first (2:15.16) and finished fourth in the 15-18 girls 200 IM with a personal best time of 2:14.29.
Will Rappaport of Pound Ridge finished eighth in the 10-under boys 100 IM. He also swam the 50 & 100 breaststroke and the 200 IM, and swam the breaststroke leg of the 10-under 200 medley relay.

Marlins Excel At NCSA Junior Nationals
 
Bradley Mitchell and Caren Guyett led the Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins to an eleventh place finish at the 2005 NCSA Junior Nationals Short Course Swimming Championships. The five-day meet that attracted more than 1,100 swimmers from 275 teams was held recently at the YMCA Aquatic and Family Center in Orlando, Florida. Scoring a total of 137.50 points, the Marlins were the highest ranking team of the Metropolitan Swimming area. Curl-Burke Swim Club of Potomac Valley won the meet with 663 points.
Mitchell, a senior from at Somers High School, set four team records and qualified for National Age Group Top 16 consideration and for the 2005 World Championship Trials in two events. Bradley won the men 200 yd breaststroke (2:01.69 - WCT - Team Record - NAG Top 16). He finished third in the 100 breaststroke (56.12 - WCT - Team Record - NAG Top 16), fifth in the 50 breaststroke (26.44 - Team record) and ninth in the 200 individual medley (1:52.84 - team record). In addition, Mitchell swam the 400 IM (4:08.02 - personal best), the 100 butterfly and the 50 freestyle. He swam a personal best time in the 100 free (47.91) leading off the 400 free relay.
Fifteen-year-old Caren Guyett of Yorktown qualified for the 2005 World Championship Trials and for National Age Group Top 16 consideration with a seventh place finish in the women 1650 freestyle. Her time of 16:44.58 was a personal best and a Marlins' team record. Guyett finished twelfth in the 1000 free (10:04.91 - team record) and thirteenth in the women 500 free (4:55.64 - team record). also swam the 100 free (52.86 - personal best), the 200 free, the 200 breaststroke, and the 200 and 400 IM.
Meredith Bannon, of Katonah, swam personal best times and set team records in three events. She swam the 50 breaststroke (30.39 - team record), the 100 breaststroke (1:05.32 - team record) and the 200 breaststroke (2:22.10 - team record - NCSA Juniors). Meredith also swam the 50 free and the 200 IM (2:12.74 - personal best).
Tristan Hastings, a sophomore at Somers High School, swam seven events at Juniors: the 400 IM (4:07.20 - personal best - NCSA Juniors), the 200 free (1:43.89 - personal best), the 200 breaststroke, the 50, 100 and 200 backstroke, and the 200 IM.
Daniel Simco, a fifteen-year-old from Pound Ridge, swam the 50 back (25.02 - personal best). the 100 back, the 100 free (50.05 - personal best) and the 100 fly. Leading-off the 400 medley relay, Simco swam a personal best time in the 100 back (52.65).
Steffi Niessl, a fourteen-year-old from Brewster, swam the 50 and 100 butterfly, the 50 freestyle and the 200 backstroke. She split a personal best time in the 50 fly (26.84) while swimming the 100 fly.
Thirteen-year-old Kim Holden, of Mount Kisco, is the youngest Marlins ever to qualify for the NCSA Junior Nationals. Kim swam the 50, 100 and 200 backstroke, and the 50 and 100 butterfly.
Kim Tracey of Sleepy Hollow swam personal best times in the 50 back (28.80) and 100 fly (1:00.20).
David Ballinger, of Pleasantville, swam the 100 and 200 fly. Simon Hammer, of Bedford Hills, swam the 100 and 200 breaststroke.
Kim Tracey, Meredith Bannon, Steffi Niessl and Caren Guyett joined forces to set new team records in the women 400 medley relay (3:56.62) and in the 200 medley relay (1:49.02).
Daniel Simco, Bradley Mitchell, David Ballinger and Tristan Hastings teamed up to set a new team record with a fifth place finish in the men 400 medley relay (3:27.65). Simco, Mitchell, Ballinger and Simon Hammer finished in eleventh place in the 200 medley relay (1:36.78). Hammer, Hastings, Ballinger and Mitchell placed fifteenth in the 200 free relay (1:27.49). Mitchell, Hammer, Ballinger and Hastings placed 21st in the 400 free relay (3:12.51).

Marlins Swim At March Madness Invitational
 
In the middle of March, the Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester 12 & Under Marlins participated at the Middies March Madness Invitational. The three-day meet was held at the YWCA in White Plains.
Eleven-year-old Matthew Karle, of Mount Kisco, won three events for the Marlins. He placed first in the 11-12 boys 100 yd breaststroke (1:14.47), the 200 breaststroke (2:39.24), and the 200 butterfly (2:30.35). He finished second in the 50 & 100 freestyle, fourth in the 100 fly and sixth in the 200 backstroke.
Nine-year-old Aaron Blacker, of Mount Kisco, was a double winner in the 10-under division, finishing first in the 50 breaststroke (38.46) and in the 50 fly (31.59). Aaron placed second in the 100 free and 100 back.
Colleen Powers, of Chappaqua, won the 10-under girls 100 fly (1:22.29). She finished third in the 100 breaststroke, fourth in the 50 back, sixth in the 50 fly, 50 breaststroke and 100 back.
Ali Polhill of Brewster won the 11-12 girls 100 free (59.96). She placed second in the 200 back and 100 fly, and fifth in the 200 breaststroke.
Maddy Berkman of Briarcliff Manor finished in first place in the 11-12 girls 100 fly (1:08.26), and took second in the 100 free and 200 breaststroke, and third in the 200 back.
James McLaughlin of Mount Kisco won the 10-under boys 50 back (38.42), placed third in the 50 free and 100 breaststroke, and fourth in the 100 free.

Marlins Qualify For Eastern Zone All-star Championships
 
Three members of the Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins qualified to participate in the 2005 Eastern Zone All-star Short Course Swimming Championships as part of the Metropolitan Team. The three-day trials and finals Zone Team Qualifier meet took place recently at the Lehman College APEX Aquatic Facility in the Bronx.
The top two finishers in each event qualified for the meet that will be held at the beginning of April at the Gloucester County Institute of Technology in Sewell, New Jersey.
The USA Swimming Eastern Zone is made up of 12 Local Swimming Conferences: Adirondack, Allegheny Mountain, Connecticut, Middle Atlantic, Maryland, Maine, Metropolitan, New England, New Jersey, Niagara, Potomac Valley and Virginia. Each swimmer may swim a maximum of six events at Zones.
Fourteen-year-old Kazu Asaga, of Chappaqua, will attend Zones for the second time. Asaga qualified first in four events: the 13-14 boys 200 yd freestyle (1:49.62), the 200 backstroke (2:00.88), the 100 butterfly (55.14) and the 200 fly (2:01.98). He placed second in the 100 back (56.63) and the 200 individual medley (2:04.27). Kazu finished third in the 100 free.
Ten-year-old Will Rappaport, of Pound Ridge, will take his first trip to Zones. Will qualified first in the 10-under boys 100 breaststroke (1:20.14); he also qualified second in the 50 breaststroke (37.60), 100 IM (1:09.70) and 200 IM (2:31.97). Will finished third in the 100 back, fourth in the 500 free and 100 fly, and fifth in the 50 back and 50 fly.
Qualifying second in the 15-18 girls 200 IM (2:16.07), Mary-Kate Baumann of Armonk, will also take her first trip to Zones. Mary-Kate placed third in the 200 back and 200 fly, and fourth in the 100 fly.

Marlins Swim At Speedo Champions Series
 
Fourteen members of the Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins Swim Team competed recently at the 2005 Short Course Eastern Zone Speedo Champions Series. The four-day meet that attracted more than 100 teams from the Northeast was held at the Nassau County Aquatic Center at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, Long Island. The Marlins finished in fifteenth place overall with 136.50 points. Germantown Academy Aquatic Club from Middle Atlantic won the meet.
Fifteen-year-old Tristan Hastings of Somers qualified for NCSA Junior Nationals in the 200 yd breaststroke (2:09.45). Tristan finished ninth in the event. He also scored points with a twelfth place finish in the 200 individual medley (1:57.00).
Fifteen-year-old Caren Guyett of Yorktown swam three NCSA Junior National times at the meet. She finished twelfth in the 1650 free (17:14.24 - JR), and thirteenth in the 1000 free (10:17.80 - JR). She also achieved Junior times in the 500 free (4:57.09).
Bradley Mitchell of Somers scored points with an eighth place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:10.50). He swam a Junior time in the 100 breaststroke (59.08).
Fifteen-year-old Daniel Simco, of Pound Ridge, qualified for NCSA Junior Nationals for the first time with a twelfth place finish in the 100 backstroke (52.75).
Meredith Bannon of Katonah qualified for NCSA Junior Nationals while swimming a time trials in the 200 breaststroke (2:24.19 - team record).
Simon Hammer finished fourteenth in the 200 breaststroke.
The team of Daniel Simco, Mitchell, David Ballinger and Adam Powell placed sixth in the Men Open 200 Medley Relay (1:37.54).
Kim Holden, Bannon, Steffi Niessl and Guyett placed ninth in the Women Open 200 Medley Relay (1:50.85 - team record). Tara Flaherty, Niessl, Betsy Weston and Guyett set a new team record in the Women Open 400 Free Relay (3:40.09).

Seven-Year-Old Marlins Share High Point
 
Kristina Barry of Chappaqua and Erica Silverman of Somers led the Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins at the 2005 Metropolitan 8&Under Championships. The two-day meet was held recently at Connetquot High School in Ronkonkoma, New York.
Barry and Silverman, who are both seven-year-old, scored 107 points each in the 7-under girls division. They both received the 7-under girls High Point Award.
Erica Silverman won the 7-under girls 25 yd butterfly (19.43), the 50 fly (46.39) and the 100 individual medley (1:38.26). She placed second in the 25 breaststroke and fourth in the 25 freestyle and 25 backstroke.
Kristina Barry took the gold in the 7-under girls 50 free (38.25) and 100 free (1:25.12); she took the silver in the 25 free, 50 back, 100 IM and the bronze in the 25 back.
Maggie McGetrick of Mount Kisco placed fourth in the 7-under girls 50 back and fifth in the 50 free.
The team of Silverman, McGetrick, Erin Boddie of Mt. Kisco and Barry won the 7-under girls 100 free relay (1:16.33) and the 200 medley relay (3:23.65).
Katherine Karle of Mt. Kisco, McGetrick, Silverman and Barry won the 200 free relay (2:46.20) and the 100 medley relay (1:30.89).
Many little Marlins scored points while finishing in the top six at the championships: Amanda Rota (8-under girls 50 fly); Felipe Carvao (6-under boys 25 free, 50 free, 25 back and 25 breaststroke); Ben Fortier (6-under boys 50 back); Ian Cooper (8-under boys 25 back) and Luke Salvatore (8-under boys 50 breaststroke).
The following relays placed in the top six: 7-under girls 100 free B relay (Emma Hadley, Jamie Roteman, Christianna Guttridge and Carolyn Silipigni); 7-under girls 100 medley B relay (Silipigni, Hadley, Boddie, Guttridge); 7-under girls 200 yd medley B relay (Silipigni, Giovanna Potenza, Hadley, Guttridge); 8-under girls 200 yd free relay (Sydney Marks, Kayla Brooks, Genna McLaughlin, Rota); 8-under girls 200 medley relay (Isabella Berland, Emily Parish, Rota, Brooks); 8-under boys 200 free relay (Marshall Widom, Daniel DiGiacomo, Salvatore, Cooper); 8-under boys 100  and 200 medley relays (Michael Lyons, Salvatore, Cooper, DiGiacomo).

Marlins Make Waves At Junior Olympics   
 
The Mount Kisco-based Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins made waves at the 2005 Metropolitan Junior Olympics Short Course Swimming Championships. The three-day event, consisting of preliminaries and finals, was held at the end of February at the Nassau County Aquatic Center at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, Long Island.
As a team, the Marlins finished in second place in the 11-12, 13-14 and 15-18 Combined Team Scores. They placed fourth in the 10-under Combined Team Scores.
Fifteen-year-old Caren Guyett, of Yorktown, received the 15-18 girls High Point Award. Caren won five events and scored a total of 161 points. She won the gold in the 200 yd freestyle (1:55.91), 500 free (5:04.91), 1650 free (17:17.50 - JO record - Junior National Time), 200 Individual Medley (2:11.90) and 400 IM (4:32.49 - Junior National Time). Caren placed third in the 50 free and 100 butterfly, fourth in the 100 free, and fifth in the 200 breaststroke.
Kim Holden, of Mount Kisco, qualified for her first Junior National Championships with a first place finish in the 13-14 girls 100 backstroke (58.85). Kim placed third in the 200 back.
Micah Sims, of Armonk, scored 123 points for a fifth place overall in the 11-12 girls division. Micah swam to personal best times in all her events, finishing second in the 50, 100 and 200 back, fourth in the 200 free and 200 fly, fifth in the 100 and 500 free, and seventh in the 50 free.
The team of Micah Sims, Taylor Scilufo, Sabine Holmes and Ali Polhill won and set a new team record in the 11-12 girls 400 freestyle relay (3:56.02). M. Sims, Holmes, Maddy Berkman and A. Polhill set a new team record with a first place finish in the 11-12 girls 400 Medley Relay (4:22.95).
Will Rappaport, of Pound Ridge, scored 138 points for a third place overall and won two events in the 10-under boys division: the 50 breaststroke (38.23) and 100 breaststroke (1:22.91). Will took third in the 500 free, 100 fly and 100 IM, fourth in the 100 back, and fifth in the 50 back and 200 IM.
Teammates Charlie Carr, Rappaport, Aaron Blacker, and Risten Clarke qualified for National Age Group Top 16 Consideration with a first place in the 10-under boys 200 medley relay (2:12.83) and with a second place finish in the 200 free relay (1:57.31).
Bradley Mitchell, of Somers, won the 15-18 boys 200 breaststroke (2:10.49).
Drew Polhill, of Brewster, scored 107.50 points for a fourth place overall ranking in the 13-14 boys division. Drew placed fourth in the 100 back and 100 fly, fifth in the 200 back and 100 breaststroke, sixth in the 200 breaststroke, and eighth in the 200 fly & 200 IM.
Many Marlins were among the top 8 finishers in their respective age groups.
In the 10-under boys division: Charlie Carr of Brewster (third in the 100 back, fourth in the 100 fly, fifth in the 50, 100 and 200 free, sixth in the 500 free, 50 back and 200 IM and seventh in the 100 IM), Aaron Blacker of Mt. Kisco (fourth in the 50 breaststroke and seventh in the 50 fly), and Risten Clarke (eighth in the 500 free).

In the 15-18 girls division: Meredith Bannon of Katonah (second in the 100 breaststroke, third in the 200 breaststroke and seventh in the 200 IM), Tara Flaherty of Hastings (fourth in the 50 free and sixth in the 200 IM) and Mary Kate Baumann of Armonk (eighth in the 100 fly).
In the 15-18 boys division: Tristan Hastings of Somers (second in the 500 free and seventh in the 200 back), Adam Powell of Pound Ridge (fifth in the 50 free & sixth in the 100 back), Andrew Palumbo of Yorktown (second in the 200 breaststroke, fifth in the 100 breaststroke, sixth in the 400 IM and eighth in the 200 IM), and Simon Hammer of Bedford Hills (third in the 200 breaststroke.)

Marlins Swim At Middies Winter Invitational   
 
The Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins Swim Team sent some its swimmers to the Middies Winter Invitational. The two-day meet was held over the Presidents' Day weekend at the White Plains YWCA.
Nine-year-old Elizabeth Barry, of Chappaqua, won the 10-under girls 100 yd butterfly (1:24.02). She placed third in the 100 freestyle, fourth in the 200 free, and sixth in the 200 individual medley.
Colleen Powers, of Chappaqua, finished third in the 10-under girls 100 backstroke, in the 50 fly and in the 200 IM, and fourth in the 50 back.
Sammie Cooper of Chappaqua took second in the 11-12 girls 100 free and 200 IM, third in the 200 back.
Eleven-year-old Danielle Sims of Armonk placed fourth in the 11-12 girls 200 back and fifth in the 500 free.
Mount Kisco's Racquel Giner finished fifth in the 11-12 girls 200 breaststroke and sixth in the 200 back.
Sean Lyons of Yorktown Heights finished fourth in the 10-under boys 100 back and fifth in the 50 back.
Sam Johnson of Katonah placed fourth in the 10-under boys 100 breaststroke and fifth in the 50 breaststroke.
Randy Ashe of Yorktown Heights took a fifth place in the 10-under boys 100 breaststroke and finished sixth in the 50 breaststroke.
Jared Blacker, of Mount Kisco, finished second in the 200 IM in the boys open division and fifth in the 100 breaststroke.
Many Marlins placed in the top six finishers in one event: Mary Kate McGetrick (fourth in the 10-under girls 50 fly); Olivia Olinger (sixth in the 10-under girls 100 fly); Caroline Weston (second in the 11-12 girls 200 fly); Chase Wilt (fourth in the 11-12 girls 200 fly); Maria Trujillo (fifth in the 11-12 girls 100 fly); Melissa Trail (sixth in the 11-12 girls 200 IM); Haruka Tanaka (fourth in the 200 IM in the girls Open division).
Kurt Wasserman (sixth in the 10-under boys 100 breaststroke); Josh Tesser (sixth in the 10-under boys 50 fly); Ian Schneider (fifth in the 11-12 boys 200 back); Benjamin Gebauer (sixth in the 11-12 boys 200 breaststroke); John Carr (sixth in the 11-12 boys 100 fly); and Chris Luboja (sixth in the 200 IM in the boys Open division).

Marlins Qualify At Silvers
 
The Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins attended the 2005 Metropolitan Silver Championship that was held at Westchester Community College recently. The Condors Swim Club hosted the three-day meet.
The goal of this meet was to qualify for the Junior Olympics. Marlins Swim At Senior Mets
 
The senior members of the Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins participated in the 2005 Senior Metropolitan Swimming Championships. The four-day trials and finals meet was held at the Lehman College APEX in the Bronx.
Caren Guyett of Yorktown was a finalist in four events: she placed third in the women 1650 yd freestyle (17:04.29), fourth in the 500 free (5:01.49), fifth in the 1000 free (10:19.00) and fifth in the 200 Individual Medley (2:09.61).
Meredith Bannon, of Katonah finished fourth in the women 100 breaststroke (1:07.33).
Fourteen-year-old Steffi Niessl of Brewster placed seventh in the final of the women 100 butterfly (56.56).

Marlins Made Waves At West Point
 
The Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins Swim Team traveled to West Point at the end of January to compete in the West Point Swim Club Last Chance Meet. The competition was held at the Arvin Gymnasium Crandall Pool at the United States Military Academy.
Swimming in her last meet as a 10-year-old, Alexandra Rota of Chappaqua achieved all best times and won four events in the 9-10 girls division. She placed first in the 50 yd freestyle (30.31), 50 backstroke (36.54), 50 butterfly (34.24) and 200 individual medley (2:45.90).
Alexandra Gorki, of Chappaqua, was a triple winner in the 11-12 girls age group. Alexandra won the 100 breaststroke (1:11.67), the 50 fly (29.68) and the 200 IM (2:20.22).
Will Rappaport of Pound Ridge was also a triple winner for the Marlins. Will won the 9-10 boys 50 back (33.53), 50 fly (32.35) and 200 IM (2:37.53).
A pair of Marlins from Chappaqua were double winners in the 8-under girls division. Seven-year-old Kristina Barry won the 8-under girls 100 free (1:24.75) and the 25 back (21.36). Amanda Rota won the 25 fly (19.20) and the 100 IM (1:38.03).
Fourteen-year-old Steffi Niessl, of Brewster, was a double winner in the women division. Steffi placed first in the 200 free (2:02.25) and the 100 fly (59.79).
Caren Guyett, a fifteen-year-old from Yorktown, was also a double winner in the women division, taking first place in the 100 back (1:01.25) and the 200 IM (2:13.80).
Ian Cooper of Chappaqua won two events for the Marlins. Ian won the 8-under boys 100 free (1:25.74) and 100 IM (1:32.82).
Eleven-year-old Matthew Karle, of Mount Kisco, won two events in the 11-12 boys division. Matthew placed first in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.31) and in the 200 IM (2:29.25).
Simon Hammer of Bedford Hills was a double winner in the men division. Simon took first place in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.89) and the 200 IM (2:05.19).
Many Marlins won one event apiece: Emily Parish of Chappaqua won the 8-under girls 50 breaststroke (48.64); Charlie Carr of Brewster won the 9-10 boys 50 free (29.24); Micah Sims of Armonk placed first in the 11-12 girls 200 free (2:08.26); Maddy Berkman of Briarcliff Manor outdistanced her opponents in the 11-12 girls 50 back (31.22); Connor White of Pound Ridge won the 11-12 boys 50 back (32.95); Meredith Bannon of Katonah led the field in the women 200 breaststroke (2:29.59); Tristan Hastings of Somers placed first in the men 200 free (1:48.98); Daniel Simco of Pound Ridge led the way in the men 100 back (55.63); and David Ballinger of Pleasantville finished first in the men 100 fly (55.01).

Marlins Swim At January Blitz
 
The Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins traveled to the Orange County Community College Natatorium to participate in the Aqua Gems January Blitz Swim Meet.
Swimming in her last meet as a 10-under, Danielle Sims of Armonk won four events for the Marlins. Danielle placed first in the 9-10 girls 50 yd freestyle (28.93), 50 backstroke (33.01), 100 butterfly (1:10.36) and 100 individual medley (1:14.65). The team of Alexandra Rota, Elizabeth Barry, Colleen Powers and Sims won the 9-10 girls 200 free relay (2:08.21).
Ian Cooper of Chappaqua was a triple winner in the 8-under boys division. Ian won the 100 free (1:24.28), 50 back (43.48) and 100 IM (1:35.99). Teammates Marshall Widom, Michael Lyons, Edward D'Amore and Cooper won the 8-under boys 200 free relay (2:57.69).
Kim Holden, of Mount Kisco, won two events as swam in one of her last meet in her age group as well. Kim won the 11-12 girls 100 back (1:01.44) and the 50 fly (28.49). The team of Hannah Marks, Haruka Tanaka, Melissa Trail and Maddy Berkman won the 11-12 girls 200 free relay (1:53.33).
Kim Tracey, of Sleepy Hollow, was a double winner in the 13-14 girls age group. Kim placed first in the 100 back (1:03.03) and the 200 IM (2:17.76). Katonah's Betsy Weston won the 13-14 girls 100 free (56.61).
Matthew Karle, of Mount Kisco, was a double winner in the 11-12 boys division, placing first in the 50 breaststroke (34.90) and 50 fly (31.62). The team of Connor White, Karle, Fumi Asaga and John Carr won the 11-12 boys 200 free relay (1:57.65).
Three resident of Chappaqua made waves in the 8-under girls division: Sydney Marks won the 100 free (1:25.82); Kristina Barry won 50 back (46.02); and Amanda Rota placed first in the 100 IM (1:40.53). The team of Amanda Rota, Kristina Barry, Julia Fortier and Kayla Brooks won the 8-under girls 200 free relay (2:39.49).
Charlie Carr of Brewster won the 9-10 boys 50 back (33.43) while Aaron Blacker of Mount Kisco placed first in the 9-10 boys 100 breaststroke (1:27.89).
Brewster's Drew Polhill finished first in the 13-14 boys 100 back (1:00.49). Teammates Polhill, Braden Clarke, Chris Luboja and James Karle won the 13-14 boys 400 free relay (3:44.54).
In addition, the Marlins held a Qualifier meet for their swimmers on the Sunday of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day weekend. 
Danielle Sims of Armonk set a new 9-10 girls team record in the 200 yd butterfly (2:39.16).
Kim Holden, of Mount Kisco, set a new team record in the 11-12 girls 200 backstroke (2:13.22). She also qualified for National Age Group Top 16 consideration and Speedo Championship Series in the 100 back with a personal best time of 1:00.72.

Marlins Placed High At Holiday Classic XVIII
 
  The Mount Kisco based-Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester Marlins scored 2,319 points to finish in second place at the Holiday Classic XVIII. All told, 1,622 swimmers from 50 teams participated in this year's championships. The White Plains YWCA Middies placed first with 2,881 points and Team Suffolk finished third with 1,564.50 points.
   Ninety-five Marlins traveled to New Jersey to compete in the three-day Invitational hosted by the Eastern Express Swim Team at the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center of Rutgers University Bush Campus in Piscataway.
   The Marlins set one Metropolitan Swimming Record, one meet record and 14 team records. Swimmers qualified for Nationals in one event, for the US Open championships in three events, for USA-Swimming National Age Group Top 16 Consideration in four events, and for NCSA Junior Nationals in 14 events.
   Fifteen-year-old Caren Guyett, of Yorktown, qualified for the US Open in one event, set six team records, qualified for NCSA Junior Nationals in six events, and scored a total of 126 points for the Marlins. She won the women open division 1650 yd freestyle with a US Open qualifying time of 16:50.04 (team record - Juniors). She placed second in the 500 free (4:57.01 - team record - Juniors) and in the 1000 free (10:15.18 - Juniors). She finished third in the 200 free (1:52.34 - team record - Juniors), fourth in the 200 individual Medley (2:06.95 - team record - Juniors) and in the 400 IM (4:28.91 - team record - Juniors), and sixth in the 100 breaststroke. Caren also set a team record at the 1000 yd split of the mile (10:10.66). The team of Kim Tracey, Meredith Bannon, Steffi Niessl and Caren Guyett finished fourth in the 400 medley relay with a Junior Nationals qualifying time of 4:00.11.
   Danielle Sims, of Armonk, was a quadruple winner and scored 154 points to lead the Marlins in points. Danielle won the 10-under girls 200 free (2:18.86), 500 free (6:06.53), 50 butterfly (30.21 - team record), and 100 fly (1:08.32). She placed second in the 50 & 100 backstroke, and in the 100 & 200 IM. The team of Elizabeth Barry, Colleen Powers, D. Sims and Alexandra Rota finished third in the 200 medley relay and seventh in the 200 free relay.
   Kim Holden and Alexandra Gorki scored 125 points each in the 11-12 girls division. Holden, of Mount Kisco, won the 50 fly (27.51 - team record) and the 100 fly (1:02.03 - team record). She placed second in the 50 back (28.04 - NAG Top 16), in the 100 back (1:01.72) and the 200 back (2:13.87). She placed third in the 100 IM and seventh in the 400 IM. Gorki, of Chappaqua, finished second in the 100 IM (1:04.75), and 400 IM (4:56.89). She placed third in the 50, 100 and 200 breaststroke and in the 200 IM, fourth in the 500 free, and seventh in the 200 fly. Teammates Holden, Gorki, Maddy Berkman of Briarcliff Manor, and Ali Polhill of Brewster, set a new Metropolitan Record in the 11-12 girls 200 medley relay (1:56.60 - Meet and Team record - NAG Top 16). Gorki, Holden, Taylor Scilufo and Polhill set a team record in the 200 free relay (1:47.78).
   Bradley Mitchell, of Somers, won and qualified for USA Swimming Nationals/2005 World Championships Trials and US Open in the 200 breaststroke with a NAG Top 16 and NCSA Juniors time of 2:02.41 (team record). Mitchell also qualified for US Open and Juniors in the 100 breaststroke (57.22) and 200 IM (1:52.89 - team record). He placed fourth in the 50 free (21.65 - Juniors), and sixth in the 400 IM. The team of Tristan Hastings, Mitchell, David Ballinger and Simon Hammer qualified for Juniors with a second place finish in the 400 medley relay.
   Will Rappaport, of Pound Ridge, was the highest scoring Marlins in the boys division with 122 points. Will won the 10-under boys 100 back (1:10.60), placed second in the 50 back, third in the 50 and 100 fly, fourth in the 100 IM and fifth in the 200 IM. The team of Charlie Carr, Rappaport, Aaron Blacker and Risten Clarke qualified for NAG Top 16 consideration in the 10-under boys 200 medley relay (2:12.41).
   Steffi Niessl of Brewster won and qualified for her first Junior Nationals in the 13-14 girls 100 fly with a team record time of 58.02. She placed fifth in the 200 fly.
   Somers Tristan Hastings qualified for Junior Nationals in the men 200 IM (1:55.61). He placed fourth in the 400 IM and fifth in the 500 free.
